I need help with a predicament

Recommended Posts

I went for my first skydive last week and it was the best experience I have ever had I want to do it again soon, but I also want to get my A rating asap. I was wondering what you guys would do. Also i want to know how long and how much it costs and how long it takes to get the A certification. And finally is it possible to make a career out of skydiving, as in where I do that and just that, and a packing and live off of that income? Sorry if these questions have been asked I just really want to know.

Take my word for what it is as I'm a low timer, but I say the best course of action is to just get out to the DZ every weekend or every chance you get and jump your ass off. That A license will come faster than you might think, As far as a career, I doubt you'll make much of a living at it, but I'm not the right person for advice on that. I say get yourself into the sport seriously, and then take a look at skydiving as a career later on.
Less talking, more flying.

I've read a few similar posts, and every time I can't help but wonder: What's the hurry?

Relax, and have some fun along the way.
The A-licence (or D-licence for that matter) is not what people will judge you by.
It's the skills you demonstrate on a jump, and equally important (or even more so) the person you are when having a beer after the jumnping is done.

fill out your profile, esp with the location.

Costs can vary more than $1000 for the A license based on location, and how far away you live from a DZ.

Plan for 3K for the A (unless you're right next to a DZ or near one of the better priced ones) and 3-4k in gear to get started. Don't plan on a career. It could happen as it has for some, but you shouldn't enter with that expectation.

Get the A, reevaluate if you want to buy the gear, then move on to the next level. You may still want it to be your life, or you may be content to have it as a sport.

I would spend as much money as possible on getting my A licence and as many jumps as I could as quickly as possible.:P

How long it takes is entirely up to you. Mine took a week being at the DZ everyday. If you're limited to weekends, or every other weekend, or one day a month etc. etc. then it's obviously going to take a lot longer.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?
