peregrinerose 0 #1 December 4, 2007 After 7 very long years of putting 75% of my take home pay toward my student loans, they were paid off a few months ago, so I did what any self respecting person freshly out of debt would do... order all new gear! I got the main and reserve (custom color main, of course!) a month ago, and finally, after ages and ages of waiting, the container showed up yesterday. Isn't she pretty???? ZigZagMarquis 9 #3 December 4, 2007 Sooooo... is this your FIRST fully custom ordered rig? You know what that means!!!! ... and thanks for no "packing fairy" pictures. Oh, sorry, and "Yes" thats a way cool looking container. Congrats!
peregrinerose 0 #4 December 4, 2007 Quote Sooooo... is this your FIRST fully custom ordered rig? You know what that means!!!! Wink ... and thanks for no "packing fairy" pictures. I just paid my beer penalty on the canopy, so will definitely pay up for the container too. It's the only way there's any decent beer at the DZ anyway... everyone else buys light beer crap! And I have better than Packing Fairy pictures now anyway... I have it on video Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
ZigZagMarquis 9 #5 December 4, 2007 Quote And I have better than Packing Fairy pictures now anyway... I have it on video I am sooo glad I do not have high-speed internet access. I think I'm going to stick with my dial-up so I don't download/launch such a video by mistake. OBTW... will this be the FIRST time to you've assembled and packed a brand new rig for yourself too? Lets see... should also have a FRIST jump on new rig coming up soon and... soooner or later... FIRST reserve ride on new rig...
ZigZagMarquis 9 #6 December 4, 2007 OBTW... Javelin, right? Did you get it without the Skyhook option? Can you still get a new Javelin WITHOUT a Skyhook??
councilman24 37 #7 December 4, 2007 You CAN get a new Javelin without the skyhook, but they are all skyhook ready and the new yoke design. I don't think they'll build an old design one but you could ask. You can find the cost of adding a skyhook later in their rigging rates. You might check the relative cost and decide to order it but not put it on so you can more easily resell it to a brain washed newbie. ( Did I say that out loud!!!! @*%$# Damn, gotta watch that.) Just kidding (mostly) about the brain washed newbie....... There are brainwashed old farts too! I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

I guess if I saw a new one it would make total sense, old yoke vs. new, but what changed? How would one not "put it on" if one got a new Jav with Skyhook, but wanted to pack it up "old school" style... without opening a potential can of worms like want went round and round with Javelin's and their RSLs here awhile ago... Terry... I went and read Sunpath's new users manual and see the instructions on how to pack up a new Jav without the Skyhook. Makes perfect sense now... but looks like you still wind up with a rig that has the reserve pin on the end of the RSL and the reserve rip-cord becomes just a pin-puller in that configuration even... ala-Bill Booth-RWS-UPT-Vector... I dunno, it works, I know, but never was much of a fan of that, just doesn't feel right, but that's just me.

peregrinerose 0 #13 December 4, 2007 Terry already answered the skyhook questions, but yes, I did get Skyhook, and every other bell and whistle I could possible put on that thing... when I saw the order form, I think I ran the pen dry of ink from checking every possible option box I even got the matching gear bag and mini-rig bag. Jennifer, it may not be the same color as my pelt, but don't you know that fur can go with anything The best part of the rig is that the leg pads hit parts juuuust right when I walk. So if you see me wearing my rig even at night, or if it's raining, or to the grocery store, or to the gym...... ya'll know why Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

councilman24 37 #17 December 5, 2007 You can use a traditional terminal pin ripcord. See page 75. But, you end up without an RSL as well as without the skyhook. If you want an RSL you have to use the marine end ripcord with the pin with the eye. I've never liked the system either. Larger housing, pin that can act as a ripcord stop, thicker pin, etc. I still always smile when I remember how anti RSL Bill was until he had a reason to sell one, the skyhook. Bill always maintained that you had to decide whether or not to release the shackle and disable the RSL before a cutaway in the air. Maybe that's why you need a skyhook. To make up for the time spent deciding not to release the shackle. There are differences in the yoke and main riser covers necessitated by the collins lanyard and the skyhook. As well as an extra flap. Haven't packed a Javelin with a skyhook yet but was just looking at my notes from the PIA symposium demo last night. I'm for RSL's, but not sold on the complexity of the skyhook. Anxious to see other solutions come out. Of course Action Air has authorization to put their "traditional" RSL on anything. Don't know if they're putting it on skyhook ready Javelins or not. But that is one way you could have a swagged pin ripcord and an RSL on a new Javelin. I'm old for my age. peregrinerose 0 #22 December 5, 2007 No problem on the thread hijack, it's been interesting reading I did pack one Jav with skyhook at Dave's before getting this, didn't find it all that difficult. The pin is a PITA, but using a really fat pull up cord makes getting it in the loop much easier. To those that missed the rig due to my grin, I'll just have to wait til I stop grinning about the rig to post a new pic. But that isn't going to happen any time soon. skydived19006 4 #23 December 5, 2007 I read through that and my thought was not so much how “lucky” you are to have your rig, you worked hard, and worked a hardcore financial priority list to be where you are! I thought how lucky of a guy your packing ferry is to be with such a person! Skydiver chick! Financially responsible chick! Knows the difference between cheep American pilsner, and good beer! Educated, and intelligent! I know the joy you had with the rig, not only for the fact that you have new gear, but that it was a very long and hard earned goal/reward as well. Way to go! Very cool rig as well. It’ll look even better all packed up, and on your back! MartinExperience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. Guess that means you only need the packing fairy now for... well.. packing! Maybe you should let Sunpath know of this "effect" so they can market it... and think of the whole cadre of female test jumpers they'd need to hire to perfect the option... If you want an RSL you have to use the marine end ripcord with the pin with the eye. Wait wait wait! Remember how the community exploded a few months back here over Javelin's with their RSLs removed and Sunpath basically said if that's done it has to be done by a master rigger and signed off by a master rigger but they STRONGLY recommend not doing that... translation... If you do it and you get a master rigger to sign off on it and you bounce, we're going to hide from the liability / shove it off on the rigger that did it for you. NOW... you can basically order a new Jav... use a terminal pin reserve rip cord (per the manual) and ditch the whole Skyhook RSL. I can't say as I'm disappointed to hear that... just seems like a reversal. Quote I'm for RSL's, but not sold on the complexity of the skyhook. Anxious to see other solutions come out. I'd agree with that. I'm fairly neutral on the "great RSL debate" and don't want to dredge it up here. Anyway... okay... now back on topic and lets talk more about PRose's pretty new orgasm rig.
