Christmas at the DZ

Recommended Posts

As I can't stand to spend more than about 1 min with my "family" the wife and 2 girls and I will be at the Parachute Center in Lodi to spend Xmas with our family there. Bill and Cathy move the tables inside and everyone sits together for good food and cold beer, not to mention a few skydives early in the day, now thats what I call a merry Christmas.:)

And rather sad all at the same time.

Agreed. I bet the two girls and the wife just love that .

I think it was the "As I can't stand to spend more than about 1 min with my "family the wife and 2 girls " comment that is "rather sad."

You're right SonomaTommy....folks here don't know your family, so on the face of it, it's a pretty sad commentary.
Just wait til the day your girls aren't around to be around...
Either way...have a terrific holiday at the DZ. If ours wasn't under snow, I'd probably be there too.

Wrong. He meant he doesn't want to be around Family, but instead will choose to take his wife and 2 girls with him to the drop zone and celibrate Christmas. Bill and Kathy have always celibrated Thanksgiving and Christmas at the DZ with skydivers.

Exactly, that's the way I took it to mean, too. He does want to be with his wife and 2 girls on Christmas; he just doesn't want to be around his obnoxious uncles and The In-Laws From Hell...on Christmas.

Why should society pressure people to spend a holiday with people they'd normally choose not to hang out with, just because of accident of birth or marriage? I have some extended relatives or in-laws I hardly ever see due to geography, and others I hardly ever see by choice. Reunions with the former can be fun. But given a choice to spend precious time with just my wife, kids and close friends I love, or with some asshole cousin I never liked as a kid, I know what I'd choose.

Hey, Tommy!

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas! And we still need to hook up for some jumps at SkyDance. Let's plan something for 2008!!

We were up there this past weekend, and I have a new dive plan for us to try. It's called the 3-way from hell :P j/k, it's actually a really fun jump with lots of opportunity for each person to fly (& screw up lol)

hope to see you soon,
Karen

I have some fond memories of Christmas dinners at California City Skydive Center, hosted by Bob and Judy Celaya. In the background were dozens of So Cal jumpers - including Van Pray (Jr. and Sr.) and dozens Japanese jumpers.
One year my brother and his wife even showed up.

I still think it is sad, regardless of WHAT family members you are referring to... being at times guilty of the same feelings, I have to honestly admit it was probably as much my fault.

Nothing at all wrong with spending time at the DZ if your immediate family wants to mind you, but you would probably do your kids well if you and your extended family were to... aw never mind.

Have a Merry Christmas

Russ

Generally, it is your choice; will your life serve as an example... or a warning?

sorry folks. I guess I should have been a little more clear on my original post. I love my wife and two girls, they are my whole life. My wife knows how uncomfortable, and out of place I feel around my family, not to mention the total lack of respect they show me. So she suggested the DZ for Xmas, to be around people that I am comfortable with and do respect us...even being a newbie. when we told our 3...oops just turned 4 yo her eyes lit up and she started jumping for joy, she just loves it there. anyway y'all have a great Christmas and a safe New Year

I'm going to jump in here again. Tommy, there was nothing wrong with your post. I understood what you meant, and I don't know you except through the forum and our few emails to try & hook up together to jump.

I have friends that are closer to me in my heart than any blood-related family member that I have. My husband is the same. In fact, my husband, toddler, & I are going to spend a portion of the holiday weekend with my family and then spend Christmas day at the home of our very good friends.

I find nothing "sad" at all in this, nor in your situation. I wish you & your family a very Merry Christmas!

I'm looking forward to our jumps together in the New Year!

Blue skies,
Karen
