Phillbo 11 #1 January 7, 2005 I have yet to get my A but have all the dive flow items signed off on my card. I have been away for 4 months and hope to return real soon and jump at a new DZ. What should I expect as far as the number and type of coach jumps I will be required to complete? I’m thinking it’s not really a cut and dry thing but will depend on the evaluation by the instructor on the first jump. I assume they will want to see that I can exit and get stable, unstable and then stable again as well as doc and maintain altitude awareness. I hope to do the required jumps , wrap up the A card and take the oral exam when I return real soon.
AMax 0 #2 January 7, 2005 I am sure you will soon get some advice from experience instructors. Just want to say that you should definitely spend some time to go through emergency procedures. Good luck!
bodypilot1 0 #3 January 7, 2005 You should expect to take a short refresher course and then do a jump (or 2) with an AFF Instructor before you are cleared for solo's or have your card signed off. Anything less, I would question the safety of the DZ you are at. I hope you stay current after you get thet A license also! JohnMitchell 16 #4 January 8, 2005 Butterflies Practice your EP's big time, rehearse them in your head, and try not to ever go so long without jumping again. Welcome back.
apixel 0 #5 January 8, 2005 I did exactly this. I stopped jumping after my first solo about 4 months ago. Fear got the best of me. I finally realized that my desire to go again was bigger than the fear, so I packed my car and headed down to Florida to keep going where I left off. I was offered to do one IAF jump as my recurrency, but I asked for two. One release dive, and then a level 9. A little more money was worth my safety. I also had to do a short refresher ground school. I've never stopped practicing my emergency procedures so we got past that part pretty quick. In the first jump I was quite "wobbly", but completely nailed the second one. And yes ... talk about butterflies, specially in my case.
Phillbo 11 #6 January 13, 2005 I hope to stay current once I get back in as well. Can only blame it on a change in lifestyle. When I decided to get into this sport I had a lot of disposable income. I recently bought another house and started a total remodel on it .. So much for the beer money. I'm really starting to miss jumping though so if I can do it on the cheap for a while I should be OK. I put my rig on a couple times a week and run through the EP's / gear check type stuff. The SIM is on the night stand and I run throught the quizes once in a while as well. I plan to go down next Saturday and get back in the air.
