QuoteQuote...to this day I HATE CORN jumps... damn stuff is evil I tell ya
Ever jumped into soy beans? Those things are evil. Corn is just a pain in the ass. Our landing area is surrounded by both and I'd pick the corn over the beans.
How's that? Tripping over the soy bean plants? I remember landing in some kind of planted field. Don't remember what it was, but probably calf-high plants... I just aimed my feet for the trenches in the middle!

Beans are tougher than they look, harder to gage the height, and really, really "sticky" (they grab you, your lines, your canopy and hold on for dear life).
Everything that touches them gets sucked in.
The plants are bushy and planted close together. When they're mature its almost impossible to land between rows. The tops of all the plants are tangled together.
Landing in mature beans almost always guarantees a face plant when they grab your feet. If you're able to flare a little high and time it right, you can sink into them. At that point in the season they're usually about waist high. I'd never attempt sinking in without planning a plf because you have no idea what's under the canopy, and plfing in beans means you're about to spend a lot of time getting the fuckers out of your gear and lines.
Corn hurts a little, but its much easier to time the flare and it doesnt grab your shit anything as badly as beans do.
I believe that true large boogies are slowly being replaced by the smaller more efficent boogies filled with Otters, Sky Vans, Casas, King Airs etc. The boogies now seem to be focused on travel to smaller destinations that you can skydving at not because of the aircraft but because of the location (Caribbean during the winter). Some of the larger companies have been dissapointed with boogies that have fallen through. C-130 Herc boogie for the Galapacos Islands-Cancelled, C-130 Herc boogie for Shrilanka (I think)-Cancelled (military coup going on,sure that's bad but I guess people dangling under parachutes just gives the attacking troops target practice :)
The large boogies, professionaly run are beginning to be far and few between and are not for the "just show up" crowd. Pay your $$$ in October for a boogie in February:
Thai Sky Festival (Herc C-130, full and booked days before web page is even open in October)
Exotic Sky Adventures (Casa in Dominican)
Skydive Belize
Vietnam Boogie AN 26
Then there are just some off the wall boogies that happen randomly around the world. There was a 7 day boogie with a C-130 Her for a few days in 2007 France then there are these ones if you speak the languague
Brazil
Germany
Back in the good old days of camping in the trailer with the family, you could travel around the countryside and always get a camp site no matter where you pulled into. Now with the world being a smaller pace, the average income of people rising greatly to what our parents earned and the advent of the internet, our family has already booked our campsites for June-July. Skydiving is moving in the same direction. Those that have the $$$ and the ability to commit 5 months ahead will be the only ones going.

Registration at the dz.com holiday boogie at eloy was 30 bucks, and you could camp for free as far as I know.

I've landed in corn - dead corn, but these all pale in comparison to grape vines. My sister-in-law landed in grape vines

Lingua franca at this boogie is English, and it has regular, not specialty, jumping from a twin jet 3 abreast tailgate (eat that, Perris!)Quote
But with prices in Europe higher than in the States already and the current exchange rates, you'll be paying through the nose. €27 is almost $40 per jump. €27 (in Europe) sounds quite reasonable, $40 (when compared to the US) does not ..

Well J here ya go!! Can you please add me t the list, um well unless we dont qualify as a major boogie...SHH where is Amazon??

OK it may not be as big as ELOY but it's our big boogie. Expecting about 100-200 people and the film fest is always fun.

hmmm Been awhile since I partied with the Flying Hellfish and Rodriguez Brothers at the same time. Last time there was a lot of nakedness, at least that's what the pictures show, I really don't remember. May need to go out to SkyFest just for that.
