chiquita24 0 #1 January 24, 2008 So, I have 11 tandems, (yes that's right 11)! I am considering starting my AFF but I need to gather up some more money first. I've pretty much done everything you can do in a tandem. I just did my last tandem about 1 week ago, and decided that I was bored. My friend told me that she felt that doing a tandem was actually more scary than doing her first couple AFF jumps because it's a totally different feeling to be wearing your own rig. What's your opinion?
Unstable 9 #2 January 24, 2008 Are those your only options? AFF is a wonderful, safe way to train, but it isn't the only safe way to learn. Are there any dropzones in your area that offer SL or IAD training... They are traditionally more economical, and frankly every bit as good.=========Shaun ==========

taylor.freefall 0 #4 January 24, 2008 I thought tandem was more scary but then it was my first jump so it could well have just been that. It's definitely time to do AFF, you'll enjoy it, it's a lot lore in depth and interesting
Lastchance 0 #5 January 24, 2008 11 Tandems Holy cow that's alot of money. For that kind of dough you could have already finished AFF and be on your way to your A. Don't get me wrong, I'm not condeming you at all. Just kinda wondering why you would do that many before going ahead with whatever program to get you in the air by yourself. I can understand being bored with it. What did these 11 tandems consist of? I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
grannyinthesky 0 #6 January 24, 2008 I don't think I had enough knowledge to be really scared during my tandem. In fact, it really wasn't until I had to climp out of the plane for my first AFF jump, that I really felt scared. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! Hausse 0 #7 January 24, 2008 Go to Skydive Wissota, WI and do a Static Line class. You'll get 25 jumps for $800ish and you'll get to jump with people which have 10'000+ jumps. And don't even start me on the party's
Lastchance 0 #8 January 24, 2008 Agreed. I wasn't the least bit scared on the 3 tandems that were required to start my AFF. I put my total trust in my instructor. My first 3 AFF jumps on the other hand had me scared out of my wits. Not thinking that I was going to die by any means but completely worried that I was going to screw it up. I wanted to be the perfect student, and natural born skydiver. Wrong. I did pass every jump but I was far from perfect. I still get anxiety going if its my first jump after a monthg or so lay off. Right now I'm recovering from surgery and have not jumped in 3 1/2 mo. and it will be a few more I suppose so I sure my first jump after this will be a exciting one. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.

I had a lot of that I've got to do it perfectly right the first time attitude. After my first few jumps, I got over that. Now it's more like-----if I keep altitude awareness and pull at the correct altitude, anything else is a plus. I have reasonable fear now for the most part. There are real dangers and risk and being aware of them is necessary to safety. I don't get paralyzed with fear. I would say I experience enough that it makes me safety conscious and get the adrenaline going real well."safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! chiquita24 0 #10 January 25, 2008 HAHA! I have 11 tandems because I work at a dropzone and got a deal on most of them and some of them were free given to me as a gift. I've done front flips, back flips, head down positions, hybrids....all kinds of fun stuff!
ladydyver 0 #11 January 25, 2008 time to grow some of your own wings and fly then! You will probably do very well at it with all of your experiences.DPH # 2 "I am not sure what you are suppose to do with that, but I don't think it is suppose to flop around like that." ~Skootz~ I have a strong regard for the rules.......doc!
