Unstable 9 #1 January 23, 2008 About a year ago Glen B wrote an article about how to help our sport grow. I wish I remembered which parachutists it was from, anybody with the reference gets brownie points. Anyways, his ideas to help the sport were pretty insightful. Buy new gear, go to one more boogie, refer one more friend than usual to make a jump, teach a student to pack, et cetera. One of the ideas that has been gnawing away at me is how we get rid of old Parachutists..... Sure, it's nice to have a 3-foot tall pile in your closet, but I'm thinking about trying to get them out. Has anybody... Given one to their friend? Left one in the waiting room of a Doctor's or Dentist's office? Shelved them in the library? Any other good ideas??=========Shaun ==========
airtwardo 7 #2 January 23, 2008 I keep my old ones... But do send a subscription to my old High School library, I spent countless hours hiding out there reading the Parachutists and NRA mags someone had donated back then. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
ryoder 1,590 #3 January 23, 2008 Funny. I thought this thread was going to be about future plans for AirTwardo and his peers. "There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.

The problem is, they'll just throw them away, and I don't like the idea of loosing a good magazine to someone else's trash.

SansSuit 1 #7 January 24, 2008 I hang on to them. Every once in awhile somebody from here asks for an old copy. I did dump all of my old SKYDIVING mags, though. Marios 0 #8 January 24, 2008 An art atelier opened 100m from my house recently. This lovely young girl teaches kids different art disciplines. I left one issue in her mailbox yesterday hoping that is going to inspire her and her students. I will check with her soon and let you know. maybe i will inspire her too

DJL 235 #10 January 24, 2008 Quote Funny. I thought this thread was going to be about future plans for AirTwardo and his peers. Based, on the responses I think you're right. Some people keep them around as relics with old stories, to look at that shitty gear and think "man, they used to jump that shit?", some leave them by the bonfire and eventually they get tossed, some people don't even look at them because "Skydiver" is much more modern and stylish than "Parachutist"."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
skyjumpsteve 0 #11 January 24, 2008 I have dropped off a couple at my gym and have seen a number of people reading them while they are on excercise bikes, ellipticals, or treadmills. I leave ones that have great covers...that grabs people's attention and makes them want to read it. Wingsuit covers seem to really get noticed.

One of the people I worked with read through my magazine and said "Dude, thats fucked up. You're sports' magazine has an obituary." When he was talking about the incidents report. relyon 0 #17 January 25, 2008 Though I've cut out and kept a few pages/photos from articles of events I attended and given some as reading material to doctor's offices, for the most part I trash them. My usual comment to my wife is "oh, another content-free issue of Parachutist", just before I toss it. Bob
Skydivesg 7 #18 January 26, 2008 Donate subscriptions of "Skydiving" which has better content and no incident or death reports save the occasional one which is newsworthy. Make sure you talk to someone in management to make sure they don't just get thrown out. The cost is much less as well.Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
