Scrumpot 1 #1 January 31, 2008 If anyone has Van's current contact info, would you mind PM'ing it to me? Towards the end of last season we were talking between us for the spec's of his Otter "bench-seating" configuration. Now that Cal City has closed I'm afraid I don't know how to contact him any longer to follow-up. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Scrumpot 1 #3 January 31, 2008 Get ahold of Jr, to ask for Sr.? Or can perhaps Jr just help out with the plans/specs? Thanks Gary - I was/am looking for Sr. though. Or at least I think I am. ....If that makes sense!coitus non circum - Moab Stone
ZigZagMarquis 9 #4 January 31, 2008 You can get in touch with Junior here too... PM vpjr... that's him. Otherwise, if you really want to get in touch with Van, call the Cal City Chamber of Commerce or the Mayor's office... I'm sure someone there knows him and could get a message to him, but be advised... or try getting a hold of the Airport Manager at the California City Municipal Airport, they may or may not know how to get in touch with him... just my 2 cents though, Van never struck me as the type of person that would take kindly to having his home phone number "outted" on the Internet. As for the bench config that Van had in his Otter... it was basically just built up "stiff" foam covered with vinyl or Naugahyde or something like that... they were held down with Velcro, a bunch of Hook Velcro on the bottoms of the benches that "mated" the carpet on the floor of the Otter... when you wanted to pick up the bench, the best you could do was pick up the shorter sections near the door and pass it (slide it up) on top of the longer sections near the front of the Otter... not the best set-up, but it certainly worked... especially when one considered Van also used his Otter for military training ops, test drops for folks like Butler and movie shoots where he wanted to take all of or some of the benches totally out of the airplane, thus, while the set-up you see in Perris' or Eloy's Otters is better for strictly skydive ops (IMO), what he had worked good enough for skydive ops and was way way easier to take totally out and put back in when needed... and its not like we really ever did that many "Big Ways" at Cal City where we really ever needed to pick-up the bench... most jumpers in the Cal City Otter was 20, including the co-pilot's seat, and usally that went down to 18 max, in the summer when it was hot... remember, we're talking Otter s/n 14 here... ... not much "Super" in it... but, hey, it got me to altitude 2000ish times. riggerrob 643 #5 January 31, 2008 Yes, we have similar benches in our King Air. The numbers 14 inches and 17 inches come to mind???
