hackish 8 #26 January 30, 2008 One of my happiest jumps was getting out at 16,200 at DeLand. The PD test jumpers still took longer to get down but I was up for a good 20min. Coming from a small DZ we always check the uppers and such. If you're not used to that get someone to show you how to read them. -Michael
AggieDave 6 #27 January 30, 2008 I have spent a LOT of time under canopy at 11k (not 12k because I jump at a 182 DZ). Its my favorite jump during the summer. That much saddle time will help you when learning your canopy and help you practice as you start to get things dialed in.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." DBCOOPER 5 #28 January 31, 2008 Go out to Lost Prairie and do it with a hundred or so of your newest friends Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea. Unparagoned 0 #29 February 1, 2008 QuoteYou risk a mid-air collision if you're directly above the place where it's reasonably expected a load of freefallers will be dropped at an altitude higher than the lowest persons canopy is fully open. Example: You're happily flying at 2300' directly below freefall group(s). One of them doesn't see you and is planning to open at 2000'. What could happen next is an excercise for the reader ... Bob Is that a common practise of having a load like that after a 13k H&P? That sounds very dangerous whatever safety measures you take.
cocheese 0 #30 February 1, 2008 I do one every Sunday I'm at the dz. Last jump of the day for me usually. It's good shit. Fuck em.
relyon 0 #31 February 2, 2008 Not really. It's similar to being at a red light at a busy intersection and not going until it's green, except eveything is thee dimensional. The answer is to exit the A/C so that you end up at or below deployment altitude by the time you get there. Much better is to avoid the area altogether. Better to misjudge and land out than be in the wrong place at the wrong time. For example, the rule I've used at Perris is to stay west of Goetz Rd until 2000' or less. So, tell manifest and preferably the pilot as well that you're doing a H&P, stay away from where freefallers are dropping/deploying until you're below their opening altitude, and watch where you are. Don't forget to enjoy the view. Bob
RkyMtnHigh 0 #32 February 2, 2008 I did a H&P at 15K at Sebastian during the space shuttle launch. I had goosebumps, it was beautiful. Pics belowWe attempted to exit during the countdown of the shuttle launch and we all bailed out so fast it was as if we were escaping a fire _________________________________________
Martini 0 #33 February 3, 2008 You might want to think about what you'll do when you have a mal at 12K.Sometimes you eat the bear..............
dannydan 5 #34 February 3, 2008 I have a buddy that has a self portrait and the vapor trail of the shuttle is in his sunglasses! I think we all know about AIR SPACE RESTRICTIONS! But do you knowwhat they are exactly for jumping during LAUNCH DAY? I mean obviously fun jumping goes on at Seb... but what about other DZs closer to the Cape? Hop N Pops and XC are my thAng too peeps! My biggest anxiety with them tho is the UNKNOWING aircraft... Dont mind "rubbernecking" except it takes away some of the actual enjoyment I do them in the first place! Even with NOTAMs and such, I have had a Commanche go right below across our fl path and over the LZ
RkyMtnHigh 0 #35 February 3, 2008 Skydive Space Center in Titusville weren't jumping around the time of the launch, but I suppose Sebastian is far enough down the beach that it was okay. _________________________________________
