howardwhite 6 #1 March 10, 2008 The company that plans to start building Twin Otters again is back in the news. From the story: "Mr. Curtis has secured more than 40 firm orders for the rebirth. Trans Maldivian Airways in the Maldives - which already has 16 original Twin Otters in its fleet - has ordered five of the new planes, formally called the DHC-6 Twin Otter, Series 400. "Others on the order list include Loch Ard Otters LLC of Florida, Air Seychelles of Africa, Air Moorea of Tahiti and the U.S. Army's Golden Knights parachute team." PhreeZone 20 #2 March 10, 2008 I was told its at least 2 or possibly 3 Otters for the Knights have been ordered. I do wonder if this means the C-31a Fokker's might be on its way out. Its got to be a lot more economical to operate the Otters then the C-31a's Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

kallend 2,148 #6 March 10, 2008 QuoteMore economical? When did that ever matter for the U.S. military? The US Dept. of Defense is the world's largest consumer of oil. A couple of Fokkers is but a drop in the ocean.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
