Gato 0 #2 April 17, 2008 Download the 2008 SIM from USPA's website (or buy a hard copy), and get yourself a copy of "The Skydiver's Handbook" by Dan Poynter and Mike Turoff. Good stuff, good information you are going to need. Welcome to the sport!T.I.N.S.

brokenwing 2 #4 April 17, 2008 invest in a case (or 2) of beer -- preferably the cheapest available bring it to your DZ next time stick around after jumping and as the evening progresses you will find wisdom thru listening unfortunately many of the truly great ones are no longer with us but there will still be nuggets for your consumption
VTmotoMike08 0 #5 April 17, 2008 You could also go ahead and become a member of USPA for about $50 and read Parachutist magazine every month
DrewEckhardt 0 #6 April 17, 2008 Quoteinvest in a case (or 2) of beer -- preferably the cheapest available bring it to your DZ next time stick around after jumping and as the evening progresses you will find wisdom thru listening Why would people stick around to drink the cheapest beer available when they have something at home in their fridge which is much better? Buy decent beer. People will like it more. Although you'll be buying a lot of it at first (graduated from student program, new gear, license, first night jump...) it'll be an insignificant fraction of price you pay to skydive. Make 150 jumps in your first year, spend $1500 on the student program, $3000 on the rig, and buying 4 $30 cases of bear will be less than 1.5% of what you spend. You'll be a lot more likely to meet people who think that jumping with new skydivers and teaching them to pack is part of the sport. With coach jumps at slot + $10 it may even be less expensive than not buying beer at all.
LongWayToFall 0 #7 April 17, 2008 Seriously. If you finish your training and bring 2 cases of good quality beer, it will be noticed, and appreciated. If you bring Keystone, prepare to get flamed
peanutgallery 0 #8 April 18, 2008 Get The Parachute and It's Pilot by Brian Germain (thanks Dougie, I'll get it back to you soon! ) I used to have a handle on life, but it broke
Chubba 0 #9 April 18, 2008 Quote it'll be an insignificant fraction of price you pay to skydive. +1 I'm beyond generous with the brews, I haven't even finished my AFF and I've shouted multiple cartons. I'm just thinking ahead, it pays to keep the instructors/skygods and especially the CI/DZO happy because ultimately he will play a large part in my skydiving career. The benefits are already showing
Lastchance 0 #10 April 18, 2008 Gotta love that great bottled beer taste in a can. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
