Why would you want to pack at home? It doesn't take much more work to pack a rig (about 6 minutes total) than it does to just stuff a canopy in a gear bag, takes a lot less space, and means you won't be rushing to replace broken rubber bands or whatever when youo get back to the dropzone. I've never been able to pack at home what with having no private gear yet but sometimes in the beginning I could see why one would like to just stuff their canopy in a gear bag and pack it at home at their leisure sometime during the week. To the OP, I guess i can safely say that there is always a demand for competent videots (i.e. for videoing tandem and team), but becoming one requires a lot of training and dedication. Also, there are probably some minimum requirements you'll have to fulfill before you can strap a camera to your helmet. In the Netherlands I think it's a valid B-licence and at last 200 formation skydives for videoing freefall and/or (top of my head) a valid B-licence and 10 CRW jumps for shooting under canopy only. mircan 0 #4 April 24, 2008 I repack after every jump, no matter if I`m going home after or not. And I almost always pack at home the day before I jump in order to be ready to jump as soon as I get to the DZ. It sucks when you miss load only because you were not packed. Lastchance 0 #6 April 24, 2008 After the last jump of the day I do a somewhat tidy job of rolling or folding things up and put it in my gear back and take it home then pull it out at my leisure, take my time and do a maticulous pack job indoors. elltee56 0 #8 April 24, 2008 There is ALWAYS a demand for a (good) camera flyer. It takes a large investment in the camera,special helmet with ring sight and visual light so you can tell when the camera is off or on. It also takes a lot of practice to get the exact timing of the exits for a tandem or a team. A team invests a lot of time and money to train to enter competitions and if the camera guy screws it up there are many very unhaqppy skydivers. Be prepared to do many camera jumps for practice with various size groups so you can figure out all the skills necessary to do it well. It is also more dangerous than a regular skydive. On the plus side, It is a great challenge to fly your body in a great position to get that great video and the satisfaction of doing a good job for the tandem or your friends on a team. Go for it. So the canopy stays packed for 5 days. OTOH sometimes I "dare" and jump 5 days packed canopy (like last weekend). But I also pack for money, so packing is no big deal.
