Amazon 7 #1 January 13, 2008 Are you ready to compete in the fastest gravity powered human sport???? So how fast do you think you REALLLLLY are in freefall. There has not been an International Speed Skydiving Association event in this country since the summer of 2005. It is too early in the year for the 2008 rules and where the other competitions are going to be but with the exchange rate it should be a good deal for the European speeders to come over to this side of the pond for a great competition. I know numerous people have talked to me in the last several years about competing and find out just how fast they are. Lets get this thing going. We need to know exactly how many of you will really want to compete. I have attached the rules from 2007 to give you an idea of what you need to know. To copy updownshops sig line. SkyFest: The Boogie that "Pays it Skyward" is "IN MOTION" June 4-9th 2008 at SD Carolina! 3 Casa's, Otter, Balloon, more to come. http://www.collegeskydiving.com/skyfestboogie/ Currently the plan is to have a qualification round on thursday and Friday for anyone who has not competed in a World Cup before. I plan on running a safety seminar to keep you safe in the sky and do this without some of the stupid mistakes I made when I first started. I will also be doing some coaching on technique. The gear must be standard off the shelf skydiving equipment. A full face helmet and a rig that is freefly friendly ( Even novices are going over 200 MPH) You can wear whatever silly suit you like.. Vinyl and spandex is all the rage for some.. I just wear a pretty tight RW suit with booties( no grippers... those tend to beat you a bit at speed) LEAD IS NOT ALLOWED for speed skydiving You must make a qualifying run of 300 KPH(186MPH) for the mens competition and 250 KPH(155MPH) for the womens competition. All the rules of ISSA apply to these jumps pertaining to measurement, please read the RULES PDF carefully.

BillyVance 35 #4 January 14, 2008 Quote What are the rules about body position? Is this a belly flying thing or is head down/sit allowed? Pretty much head down. It's not a hard thing for me to do with my heavy background in late diving slots on the big ways. Just a little tweak and ZZZZZOOOOOOMMMMM!!!! Amazon 7 #5 January 15, 2008 All the serious competitors that I know of go head down in what used to be called a no lift dive. Some people think they can maintain a stand for 40 seconds but I have not seen it. When you exit the aircraft you go out in a position like you are tracking while on the hill and transition into a penciled out dive when you pull in your hands and feet ..while remaining stable.. point your toes and try to stay as stable as you can, balancing on a timy spot on the top of your helmet while going this fast is not an easy skill to master for most people.. Getting unstable tends to cause Out of Bounds dives. The two Protracks must be within 30 KPH of each other. When you tumble or get unstable you tend to burble one of them and that causes a bad reading.. and poof that jump is OB and does not count.
Staso 0 #6 January 15, 2008 i will try to get some feedback from other members of ISSA to see if we can fit this into world cup. for now here is the latest from Arnold: Competitions 2008 In 2008 the worldcup will contain of three meets: - Finland, dropzone Utti, middle of june - Sweden, dropzone Gryttjom, july or august for the 3rd meet there are three bids: - Morocco, dropzone Beni Mellal (end of march 2008) - Italy, dropzone Casale Monferrato (july or august) - England, dropzone Hibaldstow (july or august) Marco will contact Nabil Sedrati due to the morrocan meet. Amazon 7 #16 April 24, 2008 BUMP QuoteHow about a little more info such as license requirements to compete and costs. Thx Ok lets start talking about this World Cup Competition 06-08 June 2008, USA Skydive Carolina I FEEL the need The NEED TO SPEEED http://www.skyfestboogie.com/content/view/38/16/ Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday All Day 7:30AM 7:30AM 7:30AM Trials 3 Rounds 3 Rounds 3 Rounds I think as long as one has the ability to fly safely we will follow the guidelines in the RULES...and I need to speak with the DZO and the Organizer about the cost The Essence of Speed Skydiving. To compete for the best Meet Result and set World Records. A Meet Result is made up of 3 jumps from “regular” skydiving altitude: 4.000 meters (13.124 ft). Meet Results and World Records can only be set during a sanctioned ISSA competition. Only regular skydiving gear in sale to be used. No extra weights allowed. Two “hip-mounted” Larsen & Brusgaard Pro-Tracks measure the average speed between 2.700 meters (8.858 ft) and 1.700 meters (5.577 ft). Extract the readings with Larsen & Brusgaard Jump-Track version 2.00.D. Qualification Jump: A jump that verifies a competitor’s eligibility to enter the competition. Minimum qualification speed for men is 300 km/h (186 mph), and 250 km/h (155 mph) for women, as the average over the Measurement Zone (1.000 meters). Only one Pro-Track may be used for qualification jump and it can be placed in competitor’s helmet or anywhere on the harness. The result of a qualification jump is not used for competition itself. Qualified Competitor: Competitor who has either met or exceeded the speed requirements during a qualification jump, or someone who has participated in speed skydiving competition before. So who is going to help us abuse gravity???
DSE 5 #17 April 24, 2008 What additional requirements/recommendations are there for speed skydiving? For example, Marco has a very unique rig made for him by Rigging Innovations. Additionally, he's wearing a special jumpsuit. Safety issues? Other caveats or helps? Sounds like a lot of fun!
Amazon 7 #18 April 24, 2008 Any rig in the competition definitely needs to be one that is freefly friendly. Loose flaps at 150 MPH are one thing but at 250... mph could let things out that you really do not want flappin in that much of a breeze. Most of the rigs I have seen in competition are p[retty much just regular modern rigs. I use my Infinity and other than having a couple pouches added to the side at the bottom of the container for my protracks.. there is no difference. When I am packing I do make sure it is packed tightly and I do use a double closing loop on my main container... and I ensure the bridle is stowed completely under the flap next to the BOC. The rules call for skydiving equipment available on the market. That means regular helmets...rigs... and I guess some people might jump with rubber suits on.. I do not. Some of the competitors do jump with vinyl or slick suits. For safety... We go out of the plane first. You do not want someone who is going in excess of 200 MPH above you. Usually there are 3 speeders per pass and each is to track off in a different direction 90 degrees from the line of flight. If you do get unstable at these speeds you can hurt yourself.. be aware of what it takes to regain stability without corking to a belly to earth flat stable...that can really hurt. Usually I will arch out a bit and that will put me into a bit of a track and once I stabilize I get back into the penciled out position.. If I was really unstable.. I would tuck everything in.. into a safety ball. I use a Pro track and a pro dytter in my helmet.( FULL FACE Gaffers tape to hold the visor in place... open face helmets are fine but goggles can get ripped off at these speeds and 300 mph windburn on my face SUCKED)..I want to make sure I hear the alarms going off at 5500 ... so I can pull out of the dive and into a track......at 4500 to start applying my speed braking maneuver( arms held tightly to my side and then bringing my hands up as if I was doing a weight lifting curl) to really bleed off that forward movement. When I stop feeling the huge amount of pressure against my hands then I know its time to get big ... flat and stable... and deploy. My third alarm is set for 2500 and I know I should have or be dumping at that time. It is a lot of fun.. and when you hit the right body position head down with everything tucked in...its like entering a tube of air that has hard sides to it and you just accelerate and drop thru the tube... its nearly indescribable when you hit that. Go luck and as Ken Hansen says... May the G-Force be with you.

I would hope more people would come out to play... there is nothing quite like the rush of going that fast in freefall. Before Skyfest I had less than 10 jumps this year...too much work.. and lousy weather here in Americas version of Crappy English Weather. A couple of marks I am shooting for in the future.
