hackish 8 #2 July 14, 2008 First let me say I have no kids... However I see that many kids are anxious to help their parents but the age you choose must also mean they've got enough maturity to understand the importance of what they're doing. I'm sure a 5 year-old would feel very good about packing his/her mommy/daddy's parachute. I have a few parents who want me to build fast cars for their kids to which I tell some of them I'm not comfortable building a 300hp WRX for their 16 year-old. Often the response is "Billy is a very mature kid" etc etc etc. So I think it's important to understand you will probably be biased in evaluating the "right" age. Maybe the right answer is to put Jr. through the packing course and let your local rigger approve their packing skills because they are more likely to give an unbiased opinion. Technically I suppose they would need to be supervised by a rigger in the USA anyway. -Michael

skittles_of_SDC 0 #4 July 14, 2008 There is an instructor on our DZ who I'm pretty sure had his daughter start packing for him at around 7ish.

saffron 0 #8 July 14, 2008 QuoteWould you teach your kid to pack for you? No. I would teach a child to pack for fun- but not for an actual skydive. What if something goes wrong? Stuntbabex 0 #10 July 15, 2008 Is there a minimum age to which someone can become a rigger? That would be weird to see a 7 year old packing reserves and sewing patches on canopies.
