yjumpinoz 0 #1 July 11, 2008 Last weekend I had the pleasure of performing my emergency procedures. I was wondering what happened to the etiqutte of someone on the load landing by the canopy? I had some very helpful people assist in tracking it down. I am very thankful for the help, but I usually assist if it is safe by landing by the fellow jumpers canopy. What is the norm? NovaTTT 2 #2 July 11, 2008 (1) Land near it if safe to do so. (2) Watch it to spot its landing location if not. (3) Don't forget the freebag. (4) Receive beverage from owner."Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." davelepka 4 #3 July 11, 2008 I don't think there is a norm. Let's say you jump a smallish canopy, like a Cobalt 105. You wouldn't want to follow down a cutaway main because you don't know where it's going to land. What if it drifts towards some trees or powerlines? Are you still going to follow it? Or maybe you followed it too far, and now you're stuck with some shitty options for where to land your 105. With more guys jumping smaller canopies, I would say that the chances of someone following your gear down get slimmer and slimmer. Now if you have a cutaway, and nobody even takes a look and has some input as to where your stuff set down, that's just plain rude. I'mnot going to follow your mistake down, but I'll spot it, and let you know where it probably ended up.

That can be by: - Following the jumper under his reserve - Following the Main - Following the freebag - Spotting the main or freebag.Remster
yjumpinoz 0 #6 July 11, 2008 Me and a couple of guys found my main, but as we looked for my freebag some one told us that somebody brought it in a half hour ago. Not that I didn't appreciate the help, I would have liked to thank the person that found it.
javelin1 0 #7 July 13, 2008 this is easy... if you have any kids hanging around the dz have them chase your stuff down. give them a reward when it gets returned. great character builder.
Bertt 0 #8 July 13, 2008 A couple of weeks ago, I watched a tandem cutaway from the air. I floated in brakes near the airport and watched the canopy and freebag land in a pasture about a mile from the airport. I landed on the airport. The tandem and his video guy came back to the airport and landed normally. By the time I landed, someone watching from the ground had already gone to search for the cutaway. They didn't find it, but another jumper and I told them we knew where it was and we drove over and retrieved it. That's the norm where I jump. Safe landings for everybody, then whoever can help does. You don't have to outrun the bear.
yjumpinoz 0 #9 July 17, 2008 Kind of an update on my main parachute hunt, I did keep my handles found main and freebag but managed to get a pretty bad case of poison ivy. Unfortunately a friend of my got it too.
Martini 0 #10 July 17, 2008 I'd sell that canopy PDQ. You'll get a rash every time you pack it. Forever. I'm sure there are people out there that aren't allergic to poisoned Cobalts. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
