I'm learning quickly in skydiving anything that honesty is not the best policy.

"Honey? Do these pants make my ass look fat?"

Hmmmm. You'd better know the proper answer and give it right off the top of your head with no hesitation.
(hint: it rhymes with "know".)

Take it from somebody who learned the hard way.

My take on that is that the person asking the question knows the answer, but they are asking it not looking for honersty but as part of a game they are running. Your first clue might be when the expected answer is a lie and everybody knows it before the conversation even begins.

As in "I know my butt looks big but I'm gonna put you on the spot and see if you'll lie just to make me feel nice." What they really want is just to hear that you love them.

I guess either way works, but why play with each other's psyche and take the long way around?

I love your big butt would probably work too.

I'm learning quickly in skydiving that honesty is not the best policy. I used to think we were all family looking out for one another.. These days when you look under the curtain you're faced with negative gossip in a "kiicky" environment.

I've seen three situations at three different dropzones. where the actions of a person were wrong or even a little negligent. nothing that put human life in jeopardy, just offended a couple of people. the offended parties made a huge spectacle of it. blowing everything out of proportion and treating them as if they just murdered a kid.

It blows me away to see the politics within this sport of socialism and family.. I see same immature klickiness that i thought was left in high school..

So come one people.. look out for your like, you never know when you may need them to stick up for you..

Not agreeing, disagreeing or making argument with anything you said, but, just an observation... You recognize that in many ways any Drop Zone community and even the Skydiving community as a whole is a lot like a "family"... and then you're surprised that it acts a lot like a family... klickyness, gossip, blacksheep, etc. No offense, but "DUH!"

*sigh*

It seems that one of the rights of passage for any newb in this sport is to get caught up in Drop Zone Politics to one degree or another. Once upon a time, I did. Many deal with it in many different ways. Myself, I could give two shits about DZ Politics. I just want to skydive.

You mean the proper answer to that one isn't, "Its not the pants that make your ass look fat, its the FAT that makes your ASS LOOK FAT!"

:D

You look good in Kevlar Zig! :D;)

I've noticed some of that myself. A few people seem to just snarl at you if you even attempt to socialize with them. A lot of people do keep in their usual groups. You notice it a lot at boogies where the locals are with the same people most of the time. A lot of the people that I started jumping with aren't around as regularly and it's hard to get into the other groups sometimes, especially when you're shy as hell like me.

For the most part it's not like that though I guess.

Fuck 'em.
Hang with the people who ARE open to newbies/visiting jumpers/whatever your 'deficiency';).
Keep in mind though that in almost no social setting groups will rush out to talk to you - it's you who'll have to take the initiative to approach the group.
On the plus side, if you get snarled at/cold shouldered, at least you c an comfort yourself with the knowledge that these people aren't worth any of your time in the first place.

That's one of the things I like about The Farm. We do things a little differently. We are not shy about welcoming new jumpers and visitors.
:)
We even leave the light on for ya'.
My reality and yours are quite different.

Oh yes, quite happily for 21 years.

But the bluntness has ended other relationships. I refuse to sacrifice Truth for friendship. I suppose some might consider that a weakness.
