Is there a weight limit that I have to meet. Im 6'1'' and 240 lbs. so im not a small guy by any means. a year ago when I made my last jump i was about 20 lbs lighter. Can i still get involved in the sport ? and if so what kind of gear should i be looking out for ? Thank you to all that reply to this post.
NovaTTT 2 #2 September 23, 2008 Yes, it is possible. Asking your question of your DZ instructor(s) or S&TA is your best option. S/L might be a better choice than AFF, but that will be for you and your instructor(s) to decide. Are you healthy? Are you fit? A history of CVD, arthritis or osteopathy might be limiting factors. You can always work on slimming down and/or increasing your fitness level, even as you progress through a student program. Your jump school should have student gear that is appropriate for your size (H/C and parachute, including reserve). If not, there are other DZs that will have student gear appropriate to your size. You might have to do some research to find the best DZ for your student progression. It is important to discuss these issues with the DZ staff. After completion of a student progression, there is plenty of gear from which to choose. Those options and choices are better considered then rather than now, but know that the choices are there. Good luck and have fun. Nova"Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." DON321 0 #4 September 23, 2008 theres a few people at my dz that are bigger than that and they have been jumping, just need a bigger rig and a suit with "more drag" if you want to jump with other people down the road...... im 6'2" and 210lbs and have only had the problem of not being able to find used gear, its all had to be new and custom but that dosent stop me..... I had to lose a LOT of weight to get to the 207 I am now. I was 310 at one point. Imagine all that jelly flapping in the wind at 125 mph!! Brrrr. I am 6' and 210 in my shorts, 245 out the door. I was within 5 lbs. of that when I started 5 years ago, so git yer butt in the airplane and git to gittin' out of it! You will need some good advice from your instructors and rigger on gear, canopy choices, etc but that is true for all newbies. Your response to training and your rate of advancement has much to do with your early gear choices well. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
