BaronVonBoll 0 #1 October 5, 2008 Still a student looking for my z out next jump. after my last jump I realized that the nervous butterflies in my stomach had not shown up this jump. dont know if they will be back for number 18 but I was curious how long it took most of you to lose the stomach flutters? finch 0 #2 October 5, 2008 I still get them but it seems to get less and less with each jump.I find that I want to get to altitude quicker each time I get on the plane."Never go full retard"
Gato 0 #3 October 5, 2008 I think it probably has to do with exposure to the environment, and faith in your training and skills. Every time you put your fears aside and fall from the sky, you build greater confidence. My (major) butterflies went away right after my first clear & pull jump, which I think was jump number 11. I went through the Static Line method and had a couple of lapses/retrains along the way, so I had quite a few practice pull jumps leading up to that. That feeling of confidence will keep getting better and better, and turns into REAL fun. T.I.N.S.

I don't think it has anything to do with training or skill level. Keep those butterflies, it's what keeps you alive! Early on I had a 2000+ jump camera flyer tell me he was still nervous in the plane and that it kept him sharp. While on the way up I always review my emergency procedures, double (triple, quadruple) check my cutaway + reserve handles and so and on."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." SkyPainter 0 #7 October 6, 2008 Yep! Pays to listen to that little voice in your head! We humans have "The Gift Of Fear" (from the book of the same name)that is our Early Warning system. I had several canopy mals on my first Cat B jump. I cleared them, but the expected question in the plane, "Are you READY to Skydive?" now takes on a whole new meaning! Am I READY to deal with whatever happens when I step out that door, apart from the expected drills in freefall? Butterflies remind us of what we are about to undertake .... and are a gift, in my view!Live deliberately; Dare greatly; Land gently SkyPainter SOS 1304, POPS 10695, DS

I have a loooooong way to go, and obviously, I should think before I post. T.I.N.S.

shveddy 0 #10 October 14, 2008 Yea, getting so comfortable with it that I cut corners scares me... I think you may be referring to fear, nut butterflies (on some level). First time I realized I wasn't scared any more was jump 14... I couldn't wait for them to open the door so I could finally let one loose.
Carrapeta 0 #11 October 14, 2008 At least you waited for them to open the door before you "let one loose"!! If your gonna be dumb ya gotta be tough. Your mom goes HandHeld
