slotperfect 7 #1 May 28, 2004 This is not a "catch-all" forum. I just moved eight threads from here to forums where they were a better fit. Five of them were about events or places to jump (guess where they went?), one was about a helmet (gear), one about free fall photography, and one requesting a telephonic wake-up call, which has nothing at all to do with skydiving. This forum is for skydiving related posts that do not have a specific forum dedicated to that particular subect. When you don't take the time to choose the proper forum for your post, and aimlessly put it here, it 1) clutters up this forum, 2) does not get as much quality attention as it would in the specific forum where it fits, and 3) makes unnecessary work for the Moderators. Please have respect for this environment and choose the home for your post carefully. Thanks.Arrive Safely John

peckerhead 0 #3 May 29, 2004 If you create more catogries you will have more to do. You have made it nearly impossible to select the "ahem" proper forum. I thought this was a skydiving website? IMNSHO .
slotperfect 7 #4 May 29, 2004 QuoteIf you create more catogries you will have more to do. I didn't create anything. Sangiro is the creator of this site, I just help him keep it true to it's intended function. Maybe you should PM him questions so you can better understand his vision for this site and these forums. QuoteYou have made it nearly impossible to select the "ahem" proper forum. It's very simple. With your post topic in mind, read the forum descriptions and choose the best fit for your post. Once you become familiar with the forums as a whole, it will become second nature to know where a post belongs. QuoteI thought this was a skydiving website? Where this comment comes from is a mystery to me. The only part of the entire site that is not related to skydiving are two forums, one of which contains a lot of skydiving posts anyway. Look around.Arrive Safely John

IMNSHO. Yup! Example: Quade's post on the wind tunnel. Your moving it to Events and Places (which I seldom check) is really cutting with a fine blade. Granted, I saw it, cause it is listed as moved in Gen Skydiving, but what did you gain. You just have a lot of time on your hands or what? sangiro 26 #7 June 3, 2004 Disagree. Audiences scale, communities don't. If you want to retain community you need to find a way to keep your groups small. It may be more work but we're not doing this because we have "free time on our hands". We're doing it because we're thinking about the community beyond just the one extra forum you may have to visit.Safe swoops Sangiro
slotperfect 7 #8 June 3, 2004 QuoteQuade's post on the wind tunnel. Your moving it to Events and Places (which I seldom check) is really cutting with a fine blade. Granted, I saw it, cause it is listed as moved in Gen Skydiving, but what did you gain. General Skydiving is a forum for skydiving related posts that don't really have a home elsewhere. As a result, it is one of the busiest forums. The challenge for the Mods here, IMHO, is to provide visibility and successful space for posts destined for this forum so they can thrive. Location posts, event posts, posts about gear, and other posts that perfectly fit a more specific forum appear almost every day. Questions about DZs in particular geographic areas have a home in "Events & Places To Jump." Wind tunnels are popping up all over the place - very exciting for the sport. While they are technically not about "jumping," they have a similar flavor to posts about DZs. I will continue to move them to "Events and Places To Jump" to facilitate growth of the dropzone.com forums as a whole. I suggest that if you are interested in breaking news about wind tunnels, you pop in there now and again. Thanks for the feedback.Arrive Safely John
slotperfect 7 #9 September 11, 2004 It's time to give this old post some visibility again. I literally move posts every day from this forum to the one where they belong. If you're not sure where it goes, just ask! Arrive Safely John
slotperfect 7 #10 November 2, 2004 It's time to readjust our attention to this again . . . just look at the first page. Eleven posts moved. I move them every day. It doesn't take a lot of time to read the forum descriptions and figure out where your post fits the best. Also, you can always ask one of the Moderators! PLEASE choose the right forum for your post!Arrive Safely John
slotperfect 7 #11 May 24, 2006 Time for a little visibility on this issue again. "General" does not mean "Whatever." Please ask if you are unclear what is meant here. Cheers,Arrive Safely John
jumpingjimmy 0 #12 May 24, 2006 Quote"General" does not mean "Whatever." well, it's not far from it !!! why read all the boring forums? this is where the interesting stuff gets posted, thats why people keep posting topics in here that are not general.... you want it seen by many, you post it in here, you'll be spending the rest of your forum life moving topics if you stay so anal about it
slotperfect 7 #13 May 24, 2006 Quotewell, it's not far from it !!! That's because those who don't take the time to find the topical forum that best fits their subject have made it that way. This is not now, nor has it ever been "Bonfire II." Quotethis is where the interesting stuff gets posted "Interesting" is a relative term, and differs greatly from person to person and message board to message board. "Forum Rules" is not a relative term (see "Topical Posting"). Quoteyou want it seen by many, you post it in here These are not Super Bowl commercials, and thread exposure is not the primary purpose behind any of these forums. Quoteyou'll be spending the rest of your forum life moving topics if you stay so anal about it I would spend a little less of it moving them if you weren't so cavalier about it. Try and take a little time to understand the dynamic of these forums as the creator intended it to be rather than contort it into your own.Arrive Safely John
SkymonkeyONE 4 #14 May 24, 2006 Quoteyou want it seen by many, you post it in here, you'll be spending the rest of your forum life moving topics if you stay so anal about it Like John just said, this is a general skydiving discussions forum. It's for questions and notices related to the act of actually jumping out of an airplane or something else skydiving related which does not fit in the other topical forums. It really does take up a lot of our time policing these forums and we get diddly-squat for it in return. Without moderation forums go to shit in record time. We choose not have anarchy on the forums. This happens just because people are either too lazy to post anywhere but this forum, or they feel their petty contribution will get lost in Bonfire. Think before you post, please. Put your post in it's proper forum. Also, some of you have been making it a habit of responding with "one liners" in these topical forums; please stop it. If you must post-whore, then either respond with something of actual worth, or simply type away, mindlessly responding to each and every thread in Bonfire. I promise you I don't much care what you do in that forum, so long as you abide by what few rules we have in place there. Sincerely, your overworked, but unpaid moderator, C. Blue, esq. slotperfect 7 #15 September 29, 2006 In the last three days I have moved half a dozen threads totally unrelated to the topic of this forum. Some of them belonged in Bonfire. The last two got removed rather than moved. Please think before you post.Arrive Safely John

slotperfect 7 #17 March 11, 2007 A friendly reminder . . . please think before you post. Not sure where it goes? PM a Moderator and we'll be happy to point you in the right direction. Examples from the most recent moves: -"Skydiving Tattoos:" Bonfire (thread subject is tatoos, not skydiving) -"Safety Day:" Safety & Training (no brainer) -"Ride to and from Perris & Elsinore:" Event & Places to Jump (location thread) -"AFF Courses in Brazil:" Events & Places to Jump (location thread) Thanks,Arrive Safely John
