The issue is that not all drop zones can agree. While one or two may say they will not use them, there is the other guy that wants that money and will still use them. If everyone can come to an agreement then they will be shut down fast. If not, someone will take the business.

If sLyride was not in the picture at all, every legitimate DZ in the country would have more business than they could do. Just think of how many people each year that buys the Skyride jump ticket, only to find later that they have to drive hundreds of miles, passing possibly as many as 3 or 4 (or more)real DZ's before getting to a skyride DZ, then they just say "screw it" and never make the jump they paid for and never knowing that there may have been a DZ within an hour or so for their home.
I wonder if skyride actually pays taxes on all of that free money they get evey year. Hummmm???[:/]

It would have to be a creative book-keeping job with all the credit card receipts for them to avoid paying taxes on them. It's easier to hide "under the table" cash. JMO

Did I miss something - I run a Website in England, if you view it in Tenesee, I have to state what Country I'm in or I break your law - I don't really care ?

or does it mean that I just need to move my website to another state.. or country... pretty easy to sidestep your legislation...

So if you have a company who has call centres in say Florida, even though they sell services in Tenesee, they are breaking the law - seems a bit stupid to me.

So I understand it, If I have a US phone number, which I do, and it gets routed to me in the UK, so it's cheaper for US citizens to call me (I.e. I'm doing you a favour), In Tenesee, I'm breaking the law and if so what is Tenesee going to do about it ?

Doesn't take a wizard to see that Skyride could set up offshore, and do the same scams....

These types of laws are insular and cause more harm than good I think - Tenesee will find itself isolated soon if it keeps this kind of thing up..

Well, at least you agree that skyride is a scam. I'm sure that offshore people are probably unreachable, but give us some credit here, at least it's a effort anyway. It is more targeted towards companies like skyride that are widely know for thumbing their nose at the law and doing everything they can to screw the customer.
I will contradict myself by saying this, but if a company is straight up in their business practices and don't try to rip people off, I have no problem with that company. The whole Skyride idea could have been a wonderful idea, but Ben and Cary had to go get greedy.
As I have said earlier in this thread, if a business is selling a shipable product, I don't really care where that company is as long as I get what I paid for, but in the case of Skydiving, as you know, the customer has to come to your place of business to receive the services and that's where the problem comes in. As you should know, skyride sells a skydive on the pretense that the customer thinks he/she will be going to a DZ that is just minutes from their home. There is documented cases that skyride has told customers that the dz is only 10 minutes from their home, them after the customer gave up the credit card info, they were told that they had to go to Atlanta, Ga. which was in exess of 200 miles for one customer that I know of.
That's why we got this law made. Keep your business clean and you'll never hear any complaints from anyone. That's the way I see it.

I agree that Skyride needs dealing with, although it seems to me that if the are found guilty of taking money by deception they can be dealt with anyway under existing laws. E.g. They say the DZ is 10 mins away when it's really 3 hours away - they know it's the case, that's deception right ?

Think about Larsen and Brusgaard who are very well regarded. Some new altimeter company decided they want to stitch up their competitors and anonymously complain to the Tennessee cops and report the L&B website for not saying where they are based... you think this law is good now ?

These kinds of laws are generally not thought through at all as to the consequences.

Yes they suck but after a bunch of kicking and screaming our DZ started to take them again and after the skyride customers jump and have all kinds of fun the call the DZ directly for the next jumps and they also tell their friends how to book directly with us instead of skyride. Essentially they are a source of advertising for us. Every year there are a little bit less of the skyride vouchers...not that there were all that many to begin with.

I guess the difference between a skyride owned DZ and a privately owned DZ that accepts skyride vouchers is that the Non-skyride owned DZ will be less likely to out right screw the customer where as the Skyride owned DZ has no problem either double charging the customer or acting like they don't have any record of the customer ever calling or even existing.
The best advise to give a customer that has gotten screwed by skyride is to tell them to ontact their state's Attorney General and present their case along with the evidence. A customer should never try to go head to head with skyride, that customer will lose. Mostly, individual people don't have the financial backing to win against skyride. It's all about money.

Especially after what they did with Chris Martin's Tullahoma DZ phone number after his death a few years back, they've got it coming.

Unfortunately, they will have a pocket full of your money to fight you with.

Well yeah, they do, no thanks to USPA, but they are reeling on another front. :)

Well, I guess the good thing is that they will be fighting the Tennessee Attorney General if that makes any difference. They won't get any money out of me, there's no money to be had here. I live in an apartment and don't own anything that would be worth anything to anyone. So that being said, I guess I have nothing to loose.

I'm glad you found a place to jump without getting ripped off by sLyride. There are several states that they don't have anyone that will accept their BS gift certificates. They run those same websites all over the country, all you have to do is change the city or state in the domain, and you will see that they are just database driven, PHP websites.
Good for you.
