Today, Tennessee State law says No to Skyride!

The point in that is that when a customer sees a website that says they are, let's say, Columbia (Tennessee) Skydiving, The customer calls, then the sales person has to ask where the person is located, then when the customer questions why they are now sent to a location in Georgia which is 250 miles away and they don't get this information until AFTER they have been charged for their skydive PLUS the other BS fees that Skyride charges.
That, my friend is why we tweeked the law to add that. I don't know of any DZ around that has to have a call center. They usually do their own answering. We do... and we have no need for an answering service.

I'm well versed in the business (mis)practices of Skyride. I just don't see how your protectionist legislation will help.

Some DZs certainly would benefit from a call center handling their reservations - Perris, Eloy, SDC, Deland, and a few more. They have enough volume they could justify their own unit. But even the smaller DZs could benefit from a third party reservation service answering their 800 number. You can provide 7x24 or 7x16 answering without having someone sitting at the DZ. Websites can handle this as well, but some tandems will have the usual questions that they want a human to answer. A single outfit in the middle of nowhere could handle dozens of DZs this way. On weekends, you could instead have the 800 number go direct to Manifest when you do have people in the office.

The other question I asked you is how can you enforce these laws on a Georgia DZ? Do they have a physical presence within the state? Or can they easily relocate it so that Skydive Knoxville (or whatever) is now in GA?

As for the extended hours answering, We have two of us that do that, Myself and our DZO. We miss almost none of the calls (unless we didn't have reception at the time, cell phones, go figure).
I will add that we are a small Cessna DZ, so if we were larger, it might be different. We still prefer to communicate with our customers by voice, but we do sometimes use email if the customer prefers.
The 800 number thing has not been an issue for us. The way cell phones are now days, I think, and I could be wrong, 800 numbers may become a thing of the past. Like I said, I could and probably am wrong about that, but it's some to think about anyway.
As for enforcement, It's not at all about enforcing operations in Ga, It's about making sure that if a company like skyride tries to do business in Tennessee, there are laws in place to make sure that they operate legally.
I hope all that made sense.

You probably are already aware that additional blocks for toll-free listings are already proposed. It's more likely (and already happening) that you'll see more not less toll-free. 800, 877, 866, 888...more to come.
Nice to see the law passed in TN, and it probably will set some sort of framework for other states, but I'd be willing to bet this law has some major amendments next session. It's a global world, even though we're more or less a local industry. Language that prevents businesses from operating on a global scale will likely be challenged the second it prevents someone in TN from operating in Memphis when their offices are in Nashville, for example. Or...maybe you've got an office in Nashville, but most of your actual operation is in Dallas, LA, or NYC.
In the case of my biz, I have an office in Utah, LA, and NYC. But my website doesn't indicate which office you're calling. I don't like Skyride anymore than anyone else, but this law doesn't seem to have the legs that'll kick Skyride off the global platform, beginning with a revolution in Tennessee. One can hope, tho. If nothing else, congrats on actually doing something, rather than sitting on your butt whining about it like most.

Yep, like I said, I didn't know if I would be right or wrong by saying that about the 800 numbers. You are right about that though, there are more of them popping up.
You may also be right about the law not allowing a company to do as you with the multiple locations. The point of it was to stop companies like skyride from advertising to be everywhere they are not and in our case, up until a couple of months ago, they did not have any locations in Tennessee, but a couple of the idiots that we Kicked out of our DZ opened the door at Clarksville for skyride. But that's ok, last I heard, now all he is to them is their grounds keeper. I've heard that consistently from multiple credible sources.
Thanks for the congrats. I am one person that absolutely does not sit around and whine, I may not win every time, but my opponent will definitely know I've been there and this is no exception. I never give up and I don't quit.

I've been on here in the forums off and on for probably a year now and almost every time I've said something about sLyride, some supporter jumped in and tried to take over the conversation and put up their smoke screen. Well,,,, Where are they now??? Second time I've asked that.

They see they don't have a dog in this hunt now. So how does it feel to be all alone skyride? It looks like your friends bailed out on you....

Hug it, I remember seeing you at Tullahoma sporting your 1.5 inch peanut when you did the nude jump. You were definitely the laughing stock of the dz that day.

Ouch! :D:D:D Well believe it or not, that 1.5 inch peanut is running for the Southern Regional Director! Just wait til we send him up to the BOD meetings. He's gonna drive them good old boys batshit!:ph34r:

And as for the skyride supporters that frequented the Skyride condemnation threads the last couple of years, a lot of them got banned, IIRC. There's still some around, but give them time, I'm sure they'll pipe in here soon enough. Their ASC forum is pretty much dead anyway. :P

I will add this, This is one law that, even though it doesn't and cannot spell out the word "Skyride" or any other company name, This law is truly by skydivers, for skydivers. I think it's the beginning of the end of sLyride! Ya think?

I don't think it will be the end of Skyride, but if enforced, it'll at least thin their pockets a bit and hopefully force some truth into their damn websites...

They'll just shut down their Tenn. operations, and set up somewhere else. It doesn't appear to keep them from running deceptive "Skydive-Murfreesboro/Chattanooga/Memphis" types of sites, unless they are a business (Skyride) operating in Tennessee.

I hate to say it, but if they were really smart, they'd be running the "company" offshore.

Not sure I would have admitted that. 8.5 here and don't mind putting a measuring tape to it on the top side.
Besides that, I did come here to compara Johnsons.
Being that you work for sLyride, do you really think that hardly anyone will vote for you?
I won't. You screwed yourself on that one when you took the sLyride job.
Talk back to ya tomorrow.

Peanut is NOT a skyride guy. He jumps at Cullman or The Farm mostly. He just likes to post a bunch of gibberish on here.... ;)

Don't worry, when I presented the case to Our Senator, I was very careful to add those sites in the list as well. I presented the Senator with OVER 400 websites from sLyride, Adventure, thrill planet, and their other names for skydiving alone. I also added the ones for the Hot air balloons, race car driving, war birds, gliders, white water rafting, and countless others. In all I presented the Senator with close to 1000 websites. Most were duplicates of each other with only the name changed, but the senator was blow away enough that you see the ending result.
