Steve-in-VA 0 #1 July 4, 2009 Just curious. I have a container that is too small for a 150 (J-0) and am looking for a 150- what is the smallest container I could be looking for? Thanks in advance. Steve

skybytch 273 #3 July 4, 2009 Contact the manufacturer of the container you are interested in and ask them what size you need. Why do you think you need the smallest container possible?

Yea, probably my best bet. It's an old Javelin "J-0" size. Bought it in the 90s! Looking at a sabre.
councilman24 37 #5 July 5, 2009 The one that fits the proper size reserve for you. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
billvon 3,110 #6 July 5, 2009 >what is the smallest container I could be looking for? One of the more meaningless questions commonly asked in skydiving, akin to going to a car dealership and asking "what's the fastest looking car you have?" First decide on the reserve you want. This is not going to change much with time; if you start with a PD143R you'll probably stick with that for a while, because it's generally not worth downsizing reserves, and no one ever looked up at their reserve after a reserve ride and said "dang, that thing's too big." Next decide on the range of canopies you want to fit into the container. If you are jumping a 150, you might get a container sized for a 135. This will fit a 150 with some effort, and will take a 135 and let you go as small as 120. Once you have those two bits of info, then start looking at the manufacturer's fit tables. For example, you can look at the sizing table here: http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=27 For the above example (PDR143 and 135 sized main) a Micron V344 would be ideal. captain_stan 0 #7 July 6, 2009 Your question sounds reasonable enough to me. I bought a new Javelin J1 in 2004 and have occasionally packed a Monarch 155 (similar to Sabre 150) and consider it to fit well. Although container mfrs do publish canopy size guidelines, these don't always allow for differences in canopy-specific pack volumes or the owner/packer's preference for how tight these fit. After reading the mfr's recommendations, I too would prefer to also talk to someone who jumps a similar combination or, better yet, watch them pack it.
