its actually Perris, not Paris, but for balloon jumps it can be anywhere from 3k to as high as 10k...but its mostly low like 3-4k and landing in small areas, build your accuracy before you jump. i personally dont use a cypress, im not trying to cause a stir but i know the question will come up.

yeah I agree I hate when my greedy dzo forgets to let us out at 5k (is that low enuff to call it a hop n pop mr. exitalitude nazi?) and makes us get out at 12.5K and save 6 bux!!!

I have done one cessna jump (lmao at 12.5k), and it was for free....damn that same DZ/DZO!!!

I've done 3 balloon jumps at Perris.

Exit altitude depends on where you are in the exit order. I.e. The longer your in the basket, the higher you are when you jump.

On my first one, the first person left at 3.5k, but by the time I jumped with my mate (last 2 people) we were at 7k.

Without checking my log book, I think the other 2 were from 4k and 5k.

As for pull time, I pulled higher than normal at about 4k on the first one as I needed time to set up for a relatively small landing area.

Watch out for powerlines and other hazzards too, as the chances are you won't be landing on the DZ!

:)

5k is like 15-20 secs of free fall. Somewhere in 2,5k-3,5k range is what i would call a hop'n'pop. Although last time I exited at 2,5k I was on my back because I wanted to see the plane, so it wasn't exactly a hop'n'pop.

The only time I've jumped from a balloon I exited at 4,2k. Cypres was turned off and I was open around 2k.
Your rights end where my feelings begin.

I did an intentionally unstable exit from 6k out of a balloon and found that I really needed the ten seconds I took before I got enough wind to work with.

Although I was reaching for my toggles at 4k (slow opening) my friends were sure I was going to hit the parking lot before I even pitched my pilotchute.:D

Why would you switch it off if you have one?

because we are not all jumpint in the Netherlands.. you might end up landing MUCH lower than takeoff altitude :)

Thank you for pointing out my thinking error - I was thinking of landing at *higher* altitudes than take off only. :$

I have a couple of examples of taking off at 1000m and landing under 500m :o

When did 6 grand become a hop 'n' pop? .... AFF kids .. pah:P

Doing a HnP off a balloon/helicopter sounds like a fun experiment for a PC in tow, no? How much vertical fall does it take to get enough speed from still - 400ft?

5000 is a pretty nice height for us AFF'ers - you got 10 seconds to get to terminal, 5 to track away, and you still open by 3. 3000 doesn't give so much time.
