airdvr 210 #1 October 15, 2009 Just curious to know how much does it cost to host an event and does the USPA (meaning us) pick up the tab? http://gallery.me.com/canopypiloting?fullscreen#100912&fullscreen=true&view=slideshow In looking at the pics I see alot of expense. Please don't dent the planet. PhreeZone 20 #2 October 15, 2009 USPA spends minimal on it, the host DZ spends all the money and passes the cost back on to the competitors in the form of registration, jump tickets and things like food sales. Sponsors (new this year for the most part) also help cover the cost that the DZ lays out to host the event. This week alone they had to fly I think 57 teams for 10 rounds of 4 way (plus one video) so that was at least 2850 slots that were purchased for just that event. 8 Way, 10 and 16 way will all use another couple of thousand slots. 16 teams in 8 way (plus video) at 10 rounds is 1440 slots right there. My guess is for the RW events they will fly about 5200-5800 slots in just this one week. Throw in the CRW, Artistic and canopy events the total will be 6000+ slots for the event and that is not figuring anyone that came early and did any practice rounds. Spaceland actually owns the Otters they are using instead of leasing them from other DZ's so that is helping on their costs this year also. It doesn't cover the costs of a new hanger but it helps.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
