(AP) — The Air Force Academy's parachute demonstration team will drop into the Rose Bowl before the BCS championship game carrying an American flag and the game ball. The 6-person team will parachute into the stadium in Pasadena, Calif., before the 6 p.m. MST start on Thursday. The team will also be carrying the coin used for the pre-game toss and flags representing the Bowl Championship Series and the two teams, Texas and Alabama. The drop team will include four cadets, all seniors at the school, and two staff members."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
BikerBabe 0 #5 January 8, 2010 They've had the gig for several years running now. (When the championship moved around). Actually, I think the first Fiesta Bowl they did was 98 or 99, can't recall. I think the NCAA or whoever does the bowls decided that instead of having th GKs, they should maybe have college students jump into a college game, and with the exception of some random go-getters here and there (anyone in college who has their PRO rating? no idea, just wondering), the wings of blue are the only college group with the experience (and the necessary waivers) required to jump into a bowl-size stadium. When I was there, no PRO rating was required.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

BillyVance 35 #9 January 8, 2010 One of the jumpers is from Alabama. I don't know him, but he is from the Birmingham area and had said if he didn't get into the Air Force Academy, he probably would have been at Alabama, where his sister is a student. The family are long-time Bama fans, and he lobbied (sp?) hard to be one of the jumpers and carry the Bama school flag in. MarkBolton 0 #12 January 9, 2010 I found it curious that the cameras cut away from the landings and also the jet fly-by. Almost makes me wonder if ABC has a policy on this.
BillyVance 35 #13 January 9, 2010 QuoteI found it curious that the cameras cut away from the landings and also the jet fly-by. Almost makes me wonder if ABC has a policy on this. No idea. I have rarely ever seen demo jumpers shown on TV at any football game. They're usually focused on something else related to the game. Now Nascar events are a different matter... You almost always see the flyovers and sometimes the jumpers.
