shah269 0 #1 April 7, 2010 Guys, dumb question, what's the lowest reliable resolution of an Optima II Audible Skydiving Altimeter? Will it reliably give you say 100ft or 50ft? shah269 0 #3 April 7, 2010 QuoteAccording to specs 10ft Are you serious! Can you point me in that direction where you found these specs? I had guessed 50ft! One of the engineers was arguing 100ft. But TEN FEET! WOW!Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. The only thing that falls from the sky is birdshit and fools! copland007 0 #4 April 7, 2010 From my manual :) They also have it online here: http://www.l-and-b.dk/optima2.html
shah269 0 #5 April 7, 2010 Altitude selection interval: 10 Ft. But does that mean it can "see" 10ft? If so WOW!Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. The only thing that falls from the sky is birdshit and fools! buff 0 #6 April 7, 2010 I may be mistaken but I think the lowest canopy alarm you can set is 300 feet. It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude. If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough. Harmless 0 #7 April 7, 2010 Canopy alarms are set in increments of 10ft down to 300ft but cannot be closer than 50ft... Freefall alarms are set in increments of 100ft... (this is off the top of my head, double check the manual)"Damn you Gravity, you win again"
wmw999 2,587 #8 April 7, 2010 There's a big difference between being able to say it's very close to 10 feet different from the last reading, and as close to a reading that was 4000 feet ago. I.e. let's say there's a .01 difference for each reading; that's a little over an inch -- not significant for a single reading. However, if you get that same difference over a 14,000 skydive, all of a sudden you're starting your swoop way too low. shah269 0 #9 April 7, 2010 Wendy, Thank you So this thing can tell if it's 100ft off the ground or say 50ft? Still impressive. I still win my bet. But just for kicks I'll test it out on our test tower to see how good it really is Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. kunosoura 0 #10 April 7, 2010 I would guess they are +/-15 feet or so accuracy-wise, even if they show 10 foot increments. But they are pretty damn sensitive. Sometimes when I land with my N3 it'll show plus/minus 10 feet, but usually zero. Even if that is due to a pressure fluctuation while I was in the air, to take it to 14K and back down and have it still that close to zero is impressive. It's got some pretty sensitive components that operate over a relatively large range.
JackC1 0 #11 April 7, 2010 According to the manual, the resolution is 10ft and the accuracy is +/- 20ft.
regulator 0 #12 April 7, 2010 I have an original Optima, and the lowest you can set a canopy alarm is 300 ft. But that could be lowered with the newer Optima II. I haven't jumped the newer version yet.
