jaffo 0 #1 August 25, 2010 I'm home watching the Texas Rangers game. They just showed when the Golden Knights did a demo into the stadium at the beginning of the game tonight. One of the Knights got caught on one of the flag poles coming into the stadium. They did an interview with the person in charge and he reported that the Knight was unhurt. Interesting whiplash video though....Glad everyone is ok. RyderTake chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! airtwardo 7 #3 August 25, 2010 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Army-skydiver-gets-stuck-on-Texas-Rangers-flagpole-082410 They were taking a 2 stack into the stadium, you can tell by the way the flags are going there was a breeze...not unsafe, just breezy. Anyone that jumps stadiums hates that kind of wind because it can be very deceiving as far as what the turbulence is really doing. Every stadium is a little different... Looked like they were in fat city until the edge lip where maybe the wind increased a bit, a foot higher or to the left and it's a non-event. I've seen those guys do Minute-Maid park with the roof 1/2 closed...they have the skills, just made a misjudgement. If MY misjudging always turned out that well I'd be in cotton! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

jaffo 0 #5 August 25, 2010 That stadium is known for it's wind anyway. Can't make it any easier. Just glad all he got is a little embarassed. The wind swirls around inside them. One second you are sinking it right to the target, the next you're screamin' downwind and landing near the endzone. FUN! I like 'em!! I've got 3 stadium jumps. jimmytavino 16 #7 August 25, 2010 good thing that the Top jumper had gotten his feet OUT of the lower canopy,, when he did..... or it could have also been a nasty faceplant for him... wondering just what it took and how long!!!. to get that canopy off the flagpole, AFTER the Knight cut away from it.... ps.. top jumper basically controls that 2 stack, and could be,, there was a misjudgement or the flagpole was not noticed by the top jumper... glad to see a safe outcome..... jmy
Skydivesg 7 #8 August 25, 2010 I haven't done bi-planes in quite some time because of my more agressive canopies. But I seem to recall that the bottom jumper of a bi-plane had a short and seemingly abrupt drop right after the top jumper let them go. If this still happens with today's canopies then had the top guy held on for a few more seconds we never would have seen this incident. Please correct me if my memory is wrong. (my wife does it all the time)Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

(my wife does it all the time) I don't know... looks like a bad day to land a 2 stack into a stadium! But, given the conditions, I think they did a good job of covering their asses! Were these CRW canopies? They don't appear to be 9 cells? The bottom line here is, no one hurt... but not such great PR for the sport.Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." skyjumpenfool 2 #12 August 25, 2010 ... and remember, the guy on top (the one who landed safely on the field) is the pilot! The caption on the picture above should read... Pilot ..."Take that sucka!" JohnMitchell 16 #13 August 25, 2010 [replyThey were taking a 2 stack into the stadium, So it was the top guy, who got away. that screwed up!You certainly can't steer it from the bottom/ I've done tight demos doing a biplane with Vskydiver. She always went on top and did the steering. Also got the easy landing too.I've got a couple of funny stories about it too.
