ridestrong 1 #1 September 7, 2010 ****PLEASE READ FIRST**** This poll is whether or not you feel that the barrel roll is ok in any, or given situations to check air space before waving off at pull time. For purposes of the poll it will be assumed that we are talking ONLY about a properly performed barrel roll (with out change in heading, unusual loss of altitude, etc...). Not trying to reopen discussion, unless people wish. Just interested in what a anonymous poll would look like.*I am not afraid of dying... normiss 897 #4 September 7, 2010 I would have picked "fuck no! and I'll never jump with you again" had it been an option. Bring on the "but I CAN barrel roll and not lose angle, altitude, visibility, or super powers" folks with mad skillz.

rhys 0 #9 September 7, 2010 It depends what jump you have been doing, for a belly way there should be no reason for an atmo or tracking jump where there are others on thier back. no matter how hard you wave they will not see you. It would have to be a peculiar situation for me to do it. an axample I can think of is a atmo jump, where you find yourself with another on top of you still on their back on the same heading. we usually break off from these jumps at about 4.5k so there would be plenty of time to excecute a barrel roll to determine the true expected heading of the jumpoer above you. For 95% of jumps and jumpers I do not think it is a good idea as heading awareness is first to go. But if you have a kook above you at opening time you want to make sure they are not above you. Arvoitus 1 #10 September 7, 2010 I voted never. However I do have exceptions. Eventhough I *NEVER* barrel roll on belly FS jumps I do occasionally roll on sit-fly jumps. Its not technically a barrel roll I suppose since its just a transition from back track to belly track but rolling anyway. piisfish 140 #13 September 7, 2010 I do on certain jumps. IMO it should be done on certain jumps. IMO if you can't decently roll, you shouldn't be on these jumps. obviously, you shouldn't /wouldn't need to roll after separation in a belly flying jump, on a CReW jump etc, but certain jumps WOULD need to ensure POSITIVELY that you have noone abovescissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

DrewEckhardt 0 #23 September 7, 2010 The barrel roll (or more precisely half one) is OK when you're leading a tracking jump on your back and need to get back to a normal pull attitude.
