Guru312 0 #1 December 10, 2010 Our overlords have "lost" over 100,000 aircraft. Maybe yours is one of them. JohnRich 4 #2 December 10, 2010 They can't even keep track of a couple hundred thousand airplanes, so how in the heck is it that some people think it's a good idea to register a couple hundred million other type of things? And now that they're going to make them renew their registration every few years, there's going to be fees involved for that too.
riggerrob 643 #3 December 10, 2010 Mark my words! In a few more years, the FAA is going to require all aircraft maintenance technicians to re-register their ratings. This will allow the FAA to remove a few hundred dead - or retired - riggers from their books.

Their only means of tracking an AC now is to use the information provided to them by the public. The only reason they started registration of planes and cars was to collect the fee. zoobrothertom 5 #6 December 11, 2010 Already happened. The FAA switched over to a plastic license instead of the old paper. I found out by accident here on dz.com and just made the cutoff window for renewal.____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Rigger or pilot certificates? I haven't used either my Commercial ticket or my rigger license for 20 years. I certainly need recertification! And some flight time! Any one have a URL on this so I don't have to search for it? Jeesh, I've been way out of the loop.Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

In March of 2007 I had to get replacements for my riggers and pilots licenses. The new ones have a new cert. numbers and the date of issue was changed to 2007. I've also read recently that the FAA is proposing a Pilot Photo Certificatewhich has raised concerns regarding pilot training among other things... also interesting... the AOPA did respond to the multiple news articles regarding the outdated registration and the link to security... http://www.aopa.org/advocacy/articles/2010/101210out_of_date_records_no_security_threat.html to be honest... the security concerns cited in the original article really have little to do with outdated registration... in fact the FAA registration in all three of the airplanes mentioned were all valid... (except for the one seized in Venezuela which was a forgery of a valid registration...)Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
