OSOK 0 #1 August 9, 2005 Hey all! I had my first jump this past saturday, and simply loved it. I had to go ahead and jump again, starting the course to eventually get certified. I'm trying to find out if there's any kind of training that might help one with skydiving (besides tunnel time), when not actually doing it. I did a search here and found things like Yoga, endurance training, etc... but I'm looking more to see if there's any kind of specific exercises (like practicing body positions in the water or something). Thank you!
mailin 0 #2 August 9, 2005 I've been doing alot more weight training for my upper body since starting skydiving - not really sure if its helping yet, but can't be hurting. Yoga is definitely a plus! I find I have to do alot of stretching after a weekend at the DZ. JenArianna Frances
Fast 0 #3 August 9, 2005 General physical fitness helps. If you keep your body in shape you will be less prone to minor injuries (sprains / strains) and won't be as sore after a long weekend of jumping. It's like anything else, you are just better off being in shape. Not to mention all the that gets drunk around the dropzone after hours... have to work that off somehow! Otherwise just the stuff that you mentioned. You can practice arching / body movements on the ground but it probally is more benificial if you do it around someone who can show you if your doing it right.~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. tdog 0 #4 August 10, 2005 Once you get past the beginning stuff, if you get a coach for relative work team skydiving, they probably will talk a lot about visualizations... Meaning, practice doing something in your mind, and your mind will not know the difference... And, I did not know it at the time, but I was doing it during AFF... I even one day during my lunch break went to the bathroom at the fast food place and practiced in the mirror. It made AFF real easy because I had already "done the dive" so many times on the ground. Oh, and stretching helps too...
OSOK 0 #5 August 10, 2005 On the second tandem, where you have to do a sequence of movements, my instructor told me that even though I had only like 10 minutes to learn them, just to visualize the routine in my head while we were climbing. I did but only a couple of times, and then on the actual dive I messed up the order. He said it was a damn good jump, but the reason I messed up the order was because I didn't practice it in my head enough.
