Jumpdude 0 #1 March 31, 2011 Due to the recent surge in new threads pertaining to Skyride and their new company name "Sportations" advertising on Groupon, Living Social and the other "Middle Man" websites, please post the URL's for the ads in this thread as soon as you find them. This will prevent a flood of new threads and the possibility of them being made, then lost and forgotten as they fall down the list.Refuse to Lose!!! normiss 896 #3 April 15, 2011 I'm guessing you don't want to do a tandem that costs $100 more than the regular retail price then....but they jump where nobody else does!! Look at those places they list!!!
matthewcline 0 #4 April 16, 2011 I received a call from Groupon asking me to do business with them. (I had aspirations of running a skydiving operation upon retirement, so I opened a yahoo listing or google I forget, then I changed my mind and took a "real job" I was offered. The listing is still out there as I have since deleted all the log in crap for it. that i show they got my number.) I let Mike the salesman ramble on with the program, just to hear it. When I told went to tell him I was not interested as I am not a DZ, he cut me off and said he would make this offer to a competitor, and said the name of a none existent DZ (this lead me to believe he had a search page open and was cold calling the listings in order). When I said that sounded like extortion he hung up. Is that how they sold to others who work with them? or was this guy just making a bad decision in a failed sale? LyraM45 0 #5 April 26, 2011 Does anybody know if this is part of the scam? http://www.groupon.com/deals/skydive-jersey-central-jersey?c=dnb&p=3&utm_medium=afl&utm_campaign=4485850&utm_source=rvs It doesn't say sportations, but I can't find this DZ listed anywhere. I looked up the sectional chart on this airport and it doesn't even mention skydiving operations being on the field. It smells funny to me, but I am not pulling any kind of trigger on it since I was wrong about a groupon for a legitimate little cessna tandem only operation in the bay area here just last month.Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

I actually talked to the guy who is either running that DZ or owns it when this DZ was first brought up in this thread; http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4100239;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread. He claims to have worked for sLyride and got tired of being part of "The bullshit of working there", and he claims to not have any affiliation with sLyride, but there's just too many parallels to not be a sLyride DZ. The most notable is in their site. In the Flash image image rotator on the home page, there's a picture of Jeff Fincher jumping with an AFF student and if you go to the "Get Certified" page, there is a huge quarter page picture of him with the same student. As most who follow the sLyride related topics know, Jeff Fincher is perhaps the biggest supporter of the sLyride scam and has his pictures featured all over the Sportations.com sites and some of the sLyride sites as well. Another notable element is that the guy that I talked to had a 770 area code, sLyride's real local number is a 770 area code. Based on these facts, IMO, I would be inclined to believe that contrary to the DZM/DZO said, this is very likely to either be a sLyride affiliated DZ or sLyride owned DZ.Refuse to Lose!!! LyraM45 0 #7 April 26, 2011 For grins I called the number on the groupon last night. It was about 7:30pm Pacific and somebody answered the phone and said, "skydive jersey." So, based on the other thread regarding this DZ, this new little start up operation is paying somebody to sit by the phone in manifest and answer it at 10:30pm Eastern? Doesn't really make sense. Still seems fishy to me.Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Still seems fishy to me. Keep in mind that its common practice for inbound call centers to answer the phone based on "called number ID". I used to work in the hotel reservation industry and our call center answered the phones for hundreds of hotels all with "Thank you for calling"... whatever the computer says."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
