Dentures

Recommended Posts

Polygrip.

Or leave them on the ground.

I know more than one jumper who has them.

I'm guessing you have seen the "America's Funniest Videos" clip with the lady who loses hers during a tandem.
Take reasonable precautions against losing them and you should be fine.

Okay, real advice from a dentist.....

Lots of jumpers have dentures, so don't worry too much.

Keep your mouth closed when spotting, in freefall, and on opening. Yes, they can be dislodged and lost during those times. Adhesives can help, but really only so much, mayber a full face helmet would really be the ticket. The most common thing I have seen with dentures in skydiving has been teeth broken on exit, very similar to those with natural teeth, but the denture teeth break/fracture out of the base a little easier.

In general, keep them clean. Over time, bacteria can build up in the plastic and really stink.

Smile!

You have the right to your opinion, and I have the right to tell you how Fu***** stupid it is.

I've had a full set of upper dentures throughout my sydiving career. However, I've never jumped with them. Instead, I leave them in my car or gear bag when skydiving. I often jump with an open face helmet or with no helmet at all and I am almost sure that if I left the plane with my dentures in, I would not land with them.

Also, when jumping with cameras, I found that bite switches were far less effective than a blow switch.
