Different times seem to require different rules...

I also started driving at 16 and drinking at 18, in the time since then more 'regulation' has been put in place with seemingly positive results.

I'm no sociology expert but it appears that there now is a lack of understanding in regard to the responsibility which goes along with minimum supervision.

When told by senior jumpers at a no-rules DZ ~ "Don't do that you will die" one tended to respect that, 'Madd Skillz' not withstanding.

"Don't drive nuts you'll lose your license or kill somebody" - worked pretty well back then, as did "Drink too much and you'll have a shitty life".

Our cars had seat-belts which we used YEARS before the gubmint felt the need to 'dictate' people saving themselves.

When & where I grew up everybody had loaded guns in the house, we were taught when, where & how to use them safely...use to hunt every fall with my friends from the time I was 12 years old. Nobody shot up any schools.

I didn't say more bureaucracy is a GOOD thing, but I have to agree that in this day & age it sometimes seems to be a necessity...the trend toward irresponsibility regarding consequence of actions on the part of a majority of the players, has resulted in more rules in the 'game' bein' played.

Besides~ :)

Aren't YOU the one always calling for more day to day bureaucratic intervention?
