However, a fair amount of it is. Like a lot of things in our life, it is how one uses things. Thoughts? Jerry Baumchen PS) Forgot to add: Utah Gov. Cox: Social media is a societal cancer If not in it's current iteration it would be some other tool that makes fools. We are stupid enough that being persuaded your favorite Mall is the best and the Malls on the other side of town are out to get you is more than possible, including the ensuing Mall Wars. base698 20 #7 September 16 If the medium is the message and we are the message of social media, then what has that medium sculpted us to be? Quote McLuhan. "The medium is the message" is a phrase coined by the Canadian communication theorist Marshall McLuhan and the name of the first chapter[1] in his Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, published in 1964
GeorgiaDon 405 #8 September 17 Social media is a tool, it can be used for good or bad purposes. Like some other tools (firearms come to mind), it can change us by making some actions easier, more efficient, or even possible at all. Parachutes don't force us to skydive, but they make skydiving (at least more than once, as they say) possible if you choose to do that, and that can change your life as we all know. Some tools have more risk than others, but none are a cancer unless we allow them to have that effect.
