Seems like a “Fooled by Randomness” case if I understood your previous story.

My general assumption would be an older black pilot would be way better than a younger one (and better on average compared against a white one) as the older one would have had to fight harder.  But that’s just an assumption.

Nope.  Just my personal experience and how I learned from it.  (And it was 3 pilots; perhaps you missed one.)
