IT'S NOT THE GUNS

Where I am in the world now I have not yet been in a decent eatery where there wasn't an openly trans waiter, it's just accepted.

Agreed that it's no big deal in the grand scheme of things.  Who cares?

Charlie Kirk committed the cardinal sin of pointing out that no amount of 'identification' or vivisection has any impact on biological sex.  Somehow I have a problem with the position that this justifies his death warrant.

Of course that alone isn't sufficient.

It appears to be the case for the person in an intimate relationship with a man claiming to be a woman.  Said person was evidently so offended by the implication that his object of affection reflected homosexuality that he went to the trouble of killing the person who pointed it out.

So he's gay?  Big deal.

I don’t really understand why you feel you have to point out that you don’t think the motive of a murderer was actually a justification for murder.

Do you often find yourself agreeing with criminal murderers that their victims needed killing?

A guy I knew was married but gay.  When asked about that, he responded that nobody wants to be a pariah.  He got married to prove that he was 'normal,' but later realized that 'screw it, I'm gay.'

His wife's response was "yeah, I know," but they stayed together.

I suspect that a lot of the 'trans' fad is a variation on that, where being a 'woman' is more acceptable than being a gay man.

Since I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body, I'm okay with any of it.

I have had the same experience, my daughters best friends parents are content empty nesters.I would have never known.Quite a compromise of convenience,I'll bet there is also love,as we never heard of any resentfulness or contention over the years.Never heard a phase like, I resent you or that comment." but "Since I'm {also} a lesbian trapped in a man's body, I'm okay with any of it." ..."I do, resemble that comment."

Just watched Charlie's memorial.

Very moving,

I think this may be a pivotal point in our country.

Choose wisely going forward.

I have already chosen against bigotry, misogyny, racism, and believing that school shooting deaths are a fair trade for arming everyone above diaper age with guns. So I'm good, thanks.

It's an incredibly emotional, watershed moment. The threat to free speech and Western Principles around the world it is frightening,

Did you ever read 1984 ? Thankfully we have it as a warning and it's no longer our instruction manual.

It's pivotal all right! Let's  Raise a Glass To Charlie, and the destruction of the status quo, with him in mind, at the speed of life.

It's nice to find someone here with compassion ...,dod you watch.listen to Tom Mac Donalds CHARLIE or vid with CK and Buck, wow?

What a man.

We should start a New thread Just for Charlie as it's not the gun and Utah doesn't do it Justice.

I’d like to know what you found good about Charlie Kirk; it’s an honest question, I’m not trying to trap you. I do stand for questioning myself on the issues of respect, honesty, prejudice, and consistency. I found that what I read about him indicated that he really only respected people who think like he did, and was happy to point out the problems in others, focusing on those who were the most different. I.e. tearing down others, rather than trying to strengthen his own points.

I don’t consider statements like "You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person's slot to go be taken somewhat seriously." to be appalling, making assumptions about others based on gender and skin tone, rather than on actual content. The fact that someone disagrees with me doesn’t make them unworthy or stupid, it just means they see things differently.

So that’s why I’m curious. I find statements like that to be automatic disqualifies for being taken without really careful evaluation.

Were you equally moved by the memorial for Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman?  Or did you not really pay attention to that?

Agree and that is one of his milder statements. Beyond that for me its making money off the business of spreading hate. His wife knew that spreading hate was dangerous. She suggested that he wear a bulletproof vest and discussed it with him. If he was all about Christian ideals and open discussions about plain politics he certainly didn't need body armour. But both Erica and Charlie knew the message.

She is quitting her ministry that was run in conjunction with Turning Point to now run Turning Point.

You can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig.

Phil, she was totally over thinking the problem with the bullet proof vest. The reality is that he was Christian enough to keep the bullet from exiting and hurting others but not Christian enough, apparently, for it to have simply bounced off.

I haven’t watched it, but it seems to have drawn the MAGA crowd together. Elon and Tucker were there.

From the snippets being posted it seems there was plenty of “hate speech”. True leaders try and deescalate and promote healing rather than feeding division.

His death shouldn’t be celebrated, but it doesn’t make him a saint or less divisive figure. At the end of the day this is just another school shooting.

Kirk spread hate, racism and bigotry.  He turned this into a money machine.

However, that is not (yet) grounds for summary execution although Kirk, apparently, wanted for this for Biden (July 24, 2023, episode of his podcast).

They had quite a bit about it on our local news here in Aus. Honestly made my skin crawl the level of cult worship - hands raised as they sang with fire fountains spewing sparks.

I am traumatised from a childhood exposed to American evangelicals. 40 years ago they were a largely hypocritical bunch and it’s no different today as their lord and saviour is a pedo rapist.

Ah the best christians.

"His death shouldn’t be celebrated," agree. Tyler Robinson could have moved to San Francisco to escape the less tolerant attitudes in Utah. They could have moved to Canada.

Some people can watch the Handmaid's Tale and find it dystopian.  Others find it inspirational.
