How do you respond to white nationalists?

This weekend there are marches across Australia to “Take Australia back”. 49% of Australians were either born overseas or had a parent born overseas. 

Australia has very strict immigration policies and you either come in on a skilled visa (which are meticulously vetted) or with significant wealth. There are strict age caps and it’s almost impossible to get in over 45. 

Our net immigration has fallen year on year for the past 4 years. What has changed is the mix, migrants from China and India make up a third of immigrants and have overtaken the Uk during that time. 

We don’t have an illegal immigrant problem and have an appalling track record of how we treat refugees, we aren’t signed up to UN conventions protecting their rights and frequently get chastised. Suicide rates in refugee holding facilities are high. 

We are definitely seeing a rise of white nationalism and it’s concerning. I suspect there is some level of foreign interference and shit stirring. I don’t particularly trust the Trump admin. ASIO our equivalent of the CIA uncovered Iranian involvement in some of the racial issues and we kicked out the Iranian diplomats this week.

There doesn’t appear to be a lot beyond being a keyboard warrior that can be done at an individual level?

Haha. On reddit I got downvoted to hell for saying something very similar. Basically said I’d support the protests if there was a high aboriginal turnout and no recent migrants. 

It’s been fun posting Australian Bureau of Statistics data and watching people dance to keep justifying the march.

Could you define, and differentiate a white nationalist from whites that are Nationalists?

Whites that are Nationalist are a dime a dozen over here, white nationalist with the racial tone are dealt with in the one simple phase,"Keep that shit away from Here! " I once even used it here.

As the white nationalists feel more and more entitled to keeping "their" country pure, and as the incoming immigrants get better and better - eventually either there's war or the nationalists simply die out.  Let's hope it's the latter.

Oh they'll die out. The pockets of very religious evangelicals who support the cause and have big families. Are a small part of the demographic. The majority of MAGA are old White people that are not adapting to changing employment and social dynamics. Hence the need for redistricting to sustain a feeble grasp on power.

AI and the failure to bring back dead industries to the US like coal mining, aluminum smelting, etc. Are going to be the final nails in the coffin for a species that couldn't adapt, change. So the species dies off because it couldn't survive.

Some of them were the middle-of-the-road iconoclastic types 50 years ago, who more and more feel as though this protects what they have, because they’ve mastered this system. They weren’t die hard evangelicals then, many of them quite the opposite. WW2 and the depression were the unifying forces of their parents; that and the smaller number of mass media outlets.  Everyone listened to the same news

^^^^ This.  IMO their fear is that they will lose their jobs & not be able to find one.

For the most part, the days of coming out of high school & finding a job, using one's labor, that will last all of one's working life, are long gone.

Well today’s been interesting. Mostly peaceful protests and a few neo nazis arrested. Far more people turned out than I expected- not that I went but going by the police numbers. 

Mostly seems to have been a big party atmosphere here in Perth.

What I don’t get it why the “free Palestine” marches that were on the same day had people decide to burn the Aussie flag.
