Derek Huffman

Recommended Posts

Derek Huffman had had enough of the "woke" and "LGBT culture" in his home state of Texas.  He decided to move to Russia with his family to join a society with more conservative values.  Russia has been offering something called the “Shared Values” visa program, which offers residency to foreigners who feel more alignment with the Kremlin’s moral and spiritual values, which they tout as superior to the West's LGBT/woke/liberal society.  This program was developed by Tim Kirby, an American conservative radio talk show host living in Russia, and has been heavily touted on his radio show.

Derek applied for the visa and asked if there were jobs for welders.  They said they could offer him a job as a welder in their military, and that they would pay well, so he got the visa and moved his family - wife and three young girls - there.

Once he reported to his job he was put into an infantry unit and sent to the front lines of the war in Ukraine.

His wife Deanna says Derek “feels like he is being thrown to the wolves right now, and he is kind of having to lean on faith.”  His pay did not materialize; his wife has yet to receive a single paycheck.  In addition, Russia requires them to "donate" 10,000 rubles a month to pay for Derek's gear and supplies, which will very quickly burn through their savings.

Deanna is now asking for thoughts and prayers for her husband.

Such a happy looking family. Must come from no longer fearing their girls might be coming home from school as boys anymore. Let's all send a few thoughts and prayers their way while poor Derek leans on his faith and the heathens of this created world blame this on religion, too.

Better to fuck the belief system that sucked him in and fed him the crap that inspired him to turn his back on his country.

Bullshit. He could have done what generations have done before him. Protest, fight back, etc. He didn't believe in our system . . . He believed in theirs

Bullshit, back at you. They weren't opposed to our "system" they were opposed to trans and LGBTQ rights and feared their kids would be subject to the immorality of queer and transgender people being allowed to exist. Now he is leaning on his Christian faith while his wife asks for prayers. They moved there not for politics but for Christian values.

Fuck him? Now there we can agree. The thing is, and you can pretend otherwise all you like, if Russia was a Gay and Transgender wonderland his Christian values wouldn't have allowed him to emigrate. It is interesting how the religious, locally Christians, have such difficulty seeing how belief systems both form and dominate their political viewpoints.

You are probably more right than Joe here. As usual there is a bit more to the story.  From Daily Beast

"Huffman joined the military in the hope of gaining Russian citizenship for his family through an expedited process. He also felt such service would allow him to “earn” the respect of his new countrymen, which is something he once said migrants in the United States refuse to do.

“The point of this act for me is to earn a place here in Russia,” he told Russian state media last month. “If I risk myself for our new country, no one will say that I am not a part of it. Unlike migrants in America who come there just like that, do not assimilate, and at the same time want free handouts.”..."Huffman moved his family to a village outside Moscow in spring. It was launched by American blogger Tim Kirby—who has lived in Russia for two decades—in 2023 to attract Americans seeking to escape the “liberal gender norm.” That project has been a flop, with United24Media reporting that only two families, including the Huffmans, have moved in....

Huffman’s admiration for Russia runs deep. The Russian state-operated news agency RIA Novosti reported last month that the couple honeymooned in Moscow....DeAnna(his wife) said that she was not surprised that her husband wanted to volunteer for the Russian military,...”It didn’t come as a surprise to me,” she said of his joining the military. “He always spoke so highly of the country, its president, and its people, and he has a strong passion for doing the right thing.”...

Derek shared with RT, "The pivotal moment for us was when we learned that my daughter Sophia had heard about lesbians from a classmate. Even though she didn’t fully grasp the concept, it was enough for us to realize that we needed a change. " Which precipitated his move to Russia.

For the sake of his family (and other families like his) I hope he survives, escapes Russia and becomes very vocal on why you should not trust Russia OR random right wing talk show hosts.

Traitor? Is there a war going on that I haven't heard about? Is Russia an enemy nation?  Is that what people who leave their home nations for another one they like better are? Traitors? I guess your nation was founded by traitors of the world then.

Speaking of woke, you're up early.

Actually slept in today. TY

I said Trump. Huffman was anti woke, dei, immigrants, lesbians spoke to his daughter, etc. etc. His move came whilst Trump was changing all that - so . . . Not having heard of this shared values visa - looked it up. Russia is purporting to be the land of Christianity, Judaism, Islam. Given their history, given Putin's background, really? Yeah, so fuck him.

Huffman reminds me of Travis King the US private that defected to N. Korea in 2023. Normally Kim would have played it up to his maximum advantage. But King was a seriously screwed up person.

Putin on the other hand has a propaganda win with Huffman. I'm somewhat surprised that he was sent to the front. But Putin will play it for all its worth. Be it King, Huffman or the Russian population Darwin is at work separating the wheat from the chaff.

Hi Joe,

Re:  It is interesting . . .

What is interesting is that no one is born to hate.  It is a learned thing.

Someone taught Derek to hate whomever he hates.

Think, right-wing radio & tv.

Then, of course, he goes off the deep end when someone tells his daughter that there are actually lesbians in our world.  OMG, the sky is falling.

I agree:  Fuck him & all who are like him.

I have to chuckle when I see christians having non-binary children.

Their god must REALLY love them.

It's interseting to see "Christian" parents move from a fundamentalist doctrine to a more Episcopalian format. The Episcopalain church has been accepting of LGBTQ+ since the 70's. I have a  sister who is gay and like me was raised Catholic. She changed to the Episcopalian church after coming "out" in the 80s and has been happy since.

Their doctrine is more about explaining Genesis verse 27 as God is maker of all that is, from one extreme to the other, that spans all creation from X to Y, not simply X and Y.

Even in catholicism; Monachoparthenoi, saints who are initially described as female by their hagiographers, but transition to a male (often monastic) identity – are present in every late antique and medieval Christian tradition. The textual and artistic renderings of these figures offer a comparative key to conceptualizing trans bodies and trans souls across geographical and chronological boundaries. https://maryjahariscenter.org/blog/trans-sainthood-in-translation-ca-4001500

And, let's not forget that Angels are genderless (It's a long debate).

Unfortunately, Evangalists took a more black and white approach - Thank you Oral Roberts. But in 2013, the Christian world took pause when Pope Francis said, "If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge?"

Sometimes change is made by a single leadership statement.

People have long been willing to kill each other over differences in beliefs about what God wants. I’m not sure if She looks down at us and laughs or shakes Her head and cries about the madness of religion.
