Canadians are slightly annoyed

Hi folks,

I can understand about Canadians being annoyed.  However, there are these Americans caught up in it also:   PNW border city, with land access only through Canada, grapples with Trump trade war - oregonlive.com

It really just means fewer tourists bringing their money, and more of them using tour groups that will handle the paperwork. Which means richer, older, tourists most likely. The young vibrant ones will go elsewhere.

Kind of like Russia, even 20 years ago (ie before it got really weird). I have a cousin who was with the US embassy there; she recommended NOT visiting Russia, even though she loved it.

I guess being like Russia is a stretch goal now

Well the reason is obvious! Aliens voting. There've been UFOs landing in droves! They mind-meld with the vote counters and the observers! I saw it -- the alien looked just like everyone else!

Ever the right is not that crazy here. But they seem to be crazy enough to be claiming the liberals won because of support from Trump. I’m not sure exactly how they have come to that conclusion. But I guess they need to blame it on something other than their policies.

That link, and this thread in general, reminds me of a story from some years ago.  A fellow who used to post here (I've forgotten the name), and who owned a DZ in Vernon BC, had a cottage in Port Roberts.  Once when he was going there to do some upkeep on the property, and so had tools and a ladder, he was stopped at the border, and accused of entering the US to work.  His explanation that he was doing maintenance on his own property, and was not being paid, did not suffice.  He was told that he should have hired local talent to do the work, and he was given a five year ban on entering the US, which he discovered could not be appealed.  He wasn't detained, but he was basically forced to sell his property.  Crossing the border has always had an element of chance, as there was (and always will be) a chance of getting a dickhead agent when you try to cross.  It's just significantly more chancy now.

That being said, some of my Canadian family were just here in Georgia for my daughter's wedding, and they had no problem.
