Attributing this action to "a fit if rage" understates the risk to us all at play here.  The types of contraceptives destroyed (birth control pills, IUDs) are regularly labeled "abortifacents" by the "pro-life" movement, which is shifting from just anti-abortion to more of an anti-contraception stance.  I believe these types of contraceptives are suggested to be banned in Project 2025.  Destroying this stockpile of contraceptives was not an act of rage, it was part of a plan that leads to eliminating them in the US as well.

Also because it downplays the pervasive influence of the anti-abortion / anti-contraception movement throughout American politics.

Although lying and pretending that it's all to do with abortion is perhaps uniquely Trumpian, once they've taken that position then destroying the aid rather than cooperate with international humanitarian organisations is simply the continuation of decades of Republican policy.

A U.S. policy called the "Mexico City Policy," instituted by President Ronald Reagan during a 1984 conference in that city, restricts foreign nongovernmental organizations from using U.S. federal funds to provide abortion services or related information. Presidents have alternately rescinded and reinstated the policy since its creation; most recently, President Trump brought it back at the start of his second term.

Both excellent points. The power and influence of the radical christian right can never be underestimated.

Hi folks,

More like the Third Reich everyday:  “The attorney general would be wise to read the words of the Supreme Court, which has repeatedly held that the “proudest boast” of America’s free speech tradition is “freedom for the thought that we hate.”

Bondi defends stance on prosecuting hate speech

In other words, shut up & support Trump 2.0.

What a petulant thin skinned man child. “I’m going to tell on you to your Prime Minister for asking me that question”.

Trump grossly underestimates the way that is perceived in Aus. We have this thing called free speech!

Hi  Nigel,

And, that is best shown when he talks over the reporters.  This is his ploy to keep them from asking the tough questions.

In reality, Trump cannot face the truth.

Hi folks,

And, I thought he was winning, winning:  Prosecutors in both cases said the decision to drop the charges was made after reviewing the evidence.

Prosecutors already have dropped nearly a dozen cases from Trump's DC crime surge, judge says | AP News

One can hope that everyone one of them sues the Trump Admin.

One of the things I really like about the parliamentary system is that they have something called "question period", where the prime minister has to appear in Parliament and take questions.  Can you imagine Trump having to respond to questions from opposition members in front of the whole Congress?  Years ago I used to imagine Bush (the shrub Bush) in that predicament, contrasted to Clinton or Obama or even a younger Biden.

Woooow there Jerry your age is showing. Trump messaging is whats good on the right and what shows off America favourably. Its the rest of history that must be forgotten. New textbooks across the line coming soon and then burn the old..

I reiterate that Orwell was an optimist.

Trump has yet to surprise me, but I can't wait until he's no longer a factor.  I hope the next Grand Poobah is survivable.

Hi Phil,

One perspective:  Former Defence Secretary Bob Gates once told me [ Katty Kay, British reporter ]  that the three greatest threats to America's national security were a rising China, a declining Russia and the country's own internal divisions.

Katty Kay: Why America is at a dangerous crossroads following the Charlie Kirk shooting

The article is a little long; but, well worth reading.

PS)  Of course, my age shows; it is something that we all suffer.

King Trump had a royal attendance with other royals in the last week. He had supper with many royals and about 200 other people. The upper classes of UK society.

He gave a speech that insulted the intelligence of everyone else at the banquet. He went on for about five minutes rewriting the history of the NATO Afghanistan conflict. Then he went on to blame President Biden for causing the Russian Ukrainian war. The King of England showed real class because the cameras were on him when King Trump elaborated on his fable polishing Putin's image. His face showed neither surprise nor disdain for the insult.

Hi Phil,

I do not agree that that is showing real class.

IMO the royals should never have given Trump the stage.  However, I do agree that is their country to make their own decisions.

I accept that gov't leaders [ PM Starmer ] need to have a 'relationship' with the leader of another country.

Diplomacy is something Trump doesn’t understand, neither does he understand British culture.

Quite happy to smile at him and stroke his tiny ego, all the while knowing he’s a complete tosser and it’s the easiest way to shut him up. I can easily see a Brit shaking his hand and saying “oh my such big hands”, while giving a subtle wink to the press.

I forgot the sarcasm emoji. As I thought the entire world would know that the unprecedented two state visits in a year is a giant play to the vain ego of the American King.

Keep in mind that this was a week after the Russian drone attack on Poland. After the NATO meeting where France, the UK, Germany and Denmark agreed to send more fighter aircraft to defend the eastern border against Russia. Where The US refused to provide any such assistance. So everybody in the room knew that King Trump bowed down in servitude to Putin once again.

I'm starting to wonder if Trump's whole "everyone has to stop using Russian oil" ploy is simply a way to drive the price of Russian oil down, so that we can start to import it, and then by yet another round of "one for you, one for me," gasoline prices go down.

The art of the deal.

I believe it's just an excuse to do nothing.

Trump said he'd end the war in 24 hours.  He's now 240 days behind schedule.

No its just another way to avoid the promises to punish Russia if they didn't agree to ceasefires, peace, meeting with mediators, meeting with Zelensky, etc.

53 times on the campaign trail it was within 24 hours of taking office. By March 14th it was Trump claimed he was “being a little bit sarcastic” when he repeatedly said as a candidate that he would end the war within 24 hours.

April 14th he let it slip that Putin started the war but:“That’s a war that should have never been allowed to start and Biden could have stopped it and Zelensky could have stopped it and Putin should have never started it,” Trump said.

Thereafter it was one week then two week then 50 day deadlines.

Putin knows that Trump will never lay down a hard and fast red line. Thats why the drone attack on Poland and the Mig-31s invaded Estonian airspace. Putin is testing what NATO minus the US will do in response.

Hi Phil,

And, that is why people call him TACO; a well earned title IMO.

Not true! Look how hard he is with Venezuela! He has instructed US forces to conduct three strikes, killing 16 already.
