GAjumper84 0 #26 October 25, 2013 Quote Try grabbing the right cheek of your @$$, then sliding your hand up to the bottom of the container. I will definately try that out. Makes much more sense than what I currently am trying. Wish I had a rig to try it out on at home. Fortunately I usually have to wait a while to jump, so I should have plenty of time to practice on the ground.
BIGUN 1,482 #27 October 25, 2013 GAjumper84 He said he wanted me to do the dummy one more time just for him to feel comfortable. I would have argued that the instructor cleared me had it not been the owner! Just for the sake of clarity.... if you ended your day on a successful exit, a sign off for an actual pull and come back tomorrow... You still have to do a *successful* dummy pull on the same day prior to doing an actual pull.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. My instructor told me that you can do it on the same day or within 24hours, but immediatly after is the recommended way...
mcstain 0 #29 October 25, 2013 JohnMitchell***It took me 3 tries to pass the dummy pulls. I was on a static line and they wanted me to beat the static line. (I now disagree that you have to "beat" the static line in order to pass but I'm not a SL instructor) I am a static line instructor, and I NEVER told my students they had to beat the static line. I told them to IGNORE the static line and do a smooth "arch, locate, pull, arch". I did have the caveat that the static line couldn't "wake up" the jumper. They had to start the sequence right on exit. AFAIK, this policy never caused any problems. Having students try to "beat" the static line is unfair and just makes them rush too much. Aren't we trying to train "smooth"? We have the same policy at my DZ where I am finishing off my static line progression. I had issues locating the dummy handle each time because the main had left the container and the handle was no longer where it was supposed to be. I was a bit worried about missing it each time, but my instructor stressed that he was more interested in the fact that I was in good position and going for the chute, rather than whether I actually found it. He said that for this stage he is simply making sure that I'm aware enough to complete the trained movements and attempt to save my own life before letting me do the first solo BOC deployment. yoink 321 #30 October 25, 2013 JohnMitchell ****** it sounds like some are looking for speed. Hey, pull time is no time to meth around. That made me laugh far more than it should have!

GAjumper84 0 #32 October 28, 2013 Thanks for all the help. Redid the dummy pull today and nailed it! Did my first real clear and pull afterwords, and it went perfect! Also got put on standby on the radio, so I did a jump from beginning to end by myself. What a rush! The more I do this, the more I love it. Thanks again everyone!
