I think the bigger lessons of Russia in Afghanistan and the US in Vietnam are the more relevant lessons being forgotten. The more aggressive countries are forgetting they can lose an occupation. The will to do so obviously yet exists in our vicious species; who could have guessed that it would be social media that best contained our basest instincts. Now the gooder news is that we have folks rich enough, and with sufficiently base instincts, to invest in killing social media. So we have that.
