virgin-burner 1 #26 January 19, 2014 i got one from UPT and didnt have a use for it; called them up, asked if it was ok to give it away.. made a little competition in the bonfire for pics of boobies.. several years later i wanted to order a new rig, sure thing, called up UPT again, and you know what? ended up getting the SAME discount. in the end they sold two rigs and made two jumpers really happy. karma paid off well! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. decompresion 2 #27 January 20, 2014 In CarolinaFest 2011 I won the 30% off a Mirage rig certificate. In July 2011 I got the certificate verified with Mirage with Jeannie Anderson and with the DZO James LeBarrie. By March 2012 it was obvious to me that I will not be able to get enough money together to use the certificate for a new rig. I sent both the DZO and Mirage an email once on March 6 and again two weeks later. The unedited email as I sent it: QuoteDate: Tuesday, March 6, 2012 Subject: Mirage Raffle Certificate To: James La Barrie , Jeannie Anderson Hello Skydive Carolina and Mirage! Last year i was the lucky winner of the 30% off Mirage container in the CarolinaFest boogie. It has been a rough year for me and I just can't seem to get enough money together to actually use this wonderful prize. I really really want to get rid of my Wings container and get a sexy new mirage, with proper riser protection, Reserve flaps that stay tucked, Articulated harness that does not dig in to my hip bone... Alas, this will not happen this year. I had thought of selling off this certificate for some cold hard cash, but I don't want to be "that guy" I had thought of getting a rig and selling it for a bit of profit, but I can't even get enough cash for that. I thought of helping someone buy a rig for cheap and make a few bucks on the deal, but I had a better idea. - I saw the CarolinaFest 2012 announcement in my inbox and I know what I want to do. Since Mirage is giving away another certificate for 30% off, I would like to re-gift my certificate free of charge and no strings attached So this year you can have two 30% off certificates or one 60% off certificate. 30% from Mirage and 30% from me. I can't think of a better way to tell you how much fun I had last year. - I loved team scarecrow - Boron, Happick and Joey were awesome as usual. - Free loads! - Hybrid loads with melsinore - Tracking with Chemeleki - Wicked wingsuits !!!! I could go all day. I would be extremely happy if someone could benefit from my fortune of winning last year. Maybe paying it forward will send some good karma my way and next year I will be able to afford a new sexy hot delicious Mirage Thanks for creating an excellent boogie There was no response from either parties to both emails. I didn't go to CarolinaFest in 2012 due to some financial concerns so I never found out if they re-gifted it. Next time I will be smarter about it. I like the DZO but whenever I read his customer service advice articles...I want to ask him to write one about "Answering emails is a basic part of customer communication"There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
Doug_Davis 0 #28 January 21, 2014 Zlew I saw one the other day where someone wanted like 800 bucks for a 50% off certificate. That certificate was probably really going to save someone maybe 250 bucks. Thats the biggest problem. People are charging $400+ bucks for these things and praying on new jumpers who dont know any better. I almost fell for it. But I called the manufacturer first and even they told me the certificates are a joke in terms of what you actually save.
d100965 0 #29 January 26, 2014 It's a sign of the times! This goes hand in hand with European jumpers charging their "friends" to bring back equipment from the US. Even if it didn't actually cost them anything to do. If they did incur costs then that's just a chance to charge more money and turn a bigger profit. On a friend!!! Shame, shame! Joellercoaster 6 #30 January 26, 2014 On a related note... I gave someone a good deal on a canopy a little while ago, because I got a discount from the manufacturer when it was new, they didn't have much money at the time and I was happy to see it go somewhere in my local jumping community. Discovering they sold it on for more than I charged them when they in turn downsized, was not a happy moment.-- "I'll tell you how all skydivers are judged, .
