JoeWeber 2,941 #1 Posted August 3, 2023 Again, the elephant in the room. Once again a religion, like Christianity in America, that claims to be the solution to everything is on the cusp of forcing a democracy to bend to it's will against the threat of worse violence to come. What does this sound like to you? Is it what you don't say out loud about your own religious views? Is it how you justify supporting Trump or just continuing being registered as a Republican? Erdogan uses religion like trump and the evangelicals do. He uses it to pander to his conservative base and show them that he defends them. As soon as Sweden becomes a NATO member let the burning recommence. Pakistan is another country where the religious evangelicals on the Islam side like to run wild when the Quran is burnt. They just had a large terrorist bombing courtesy of the IS. For decades Pakistan's government played with radical and terrorist Islamic groups. Now they are getting the harvest of that pandering. Its time for a religious war in the world. Time to put religion back into the churches and mosques where they belong. Then close the doors. Religion has no place in government or politics. As long as they have the right to practice their beliefs in private or solely among themselves. This is an excerpt from a book that Evangelical Christians would like to duplicate in America. "With “the people” on his side, Erdogan has changed the very fabric of Turkish society. Turkey has been changing from an oppressive Kemalist state to an aggressive autocratic and vindictive Islamist state. All opposition is securitised and deemed “the enemy,” state institutions spread Erdoganism’s populist narratives, and democratic checks and balances have been successfully dismantled." Israel is another prime example of the religious right( Haredim or ultra orthodox)running wild. Radical Jewish conservatives hold the balance of power in Netanyahu's coalition government.Although they only have 10% of the population. They don't have to serve in the military, They all have 10 or more kids in order to serve "God". Just like US evangelicals. So their numbers are growing like locusts during a Kansas drought. But i digress. Netanyahu’s Government Takes a Turn Toward Theocracy A short read on the issue. As mentioned they don't serve in the military, get subsidies from the government so they don't have to work, pay little or no taxes. Their current push is to exempt their religious group from having a school curriculum that teaches math and science. They only want to teach religion in their government funded schools. So become the same as the US evangelical right! Edited August 3, 2023 by Phil1111
riggerrob 643 #3 August 3, 2023 Scary how the hard-core right-wing of any religion travels full-circle until it resembles the hard-core left-wing of another religion. They both become rigid dictatorships/autocracies that brutally suppress any deviation from their narrow world-view. Their narrow world-view alienates many possible sympathizers. Remember how the United States of America was founded in the wake of the Protestant Reformation, Thirty Years War, Catholic Reformation, etc. that laid waste to large swaths of Germany and sparked a bloody Civil War in England. That is why the Constitution of the USA specifically forbids Congress from making any rules related to religion. I respect the American constitution because it tries to pre-empt any religious war in the USA by separating church and state.
