Phil1111 1,168 #1 Posted June 28, 2023 Its time a thread explored the full range of comments that GOP leaders make in order to stay in touch with its "I love the poorly educated" base. “What’s a Uyghur?” was the comment from Republican presidential candidate Francis Suarez in response to a radio station interview. I'll give him some credit he has not voted for trump for president. Although thats kind of like the statements of many in SC who never admit to voting for trump. Yet are staunch conservatives. kallend 2,146 #2 June 29, 2023 Well, there are lots of stupid GOP comments on the topic of abortion, so where to begin. Tod Akin's claim that women can't get pregnant from "legitimate rape" comes immediately to mind. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/aug/19/republican-todd-akin-rape-pregnancy
wolfriverjoe 1,523 #3 July 22, 2023 I'm a bit surprised that this thread hasn't taken off. The constant stream of ignorant bullshit from the idiots in the "Freedom Caucus", Alabama defying the SC ruling for redistricting, Abbot breaking a WHOLE LOT of rules (federal, state and international) in constructing a barrier in the middle of the Rio Grande, the list is pretty long. However, one recent thing (not an actual 'statement') is both utterly hilarious and absolutely typical. Ohio SecState Frank LaRose is running for US Senate. He mad the formal announcement last Monday (17th). During the conference call the song "The Loophole" by satirists Garfunkel & Oats was playing. The song starts off very pious and proper. But it goes well beyond the 'bounds of propriety' fairly quickly. Lyrics (warning NSFW): https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJzj4tVP1zc0TLKoMkxPLygyYPRSSE8sSivNy07NUUjMS1HITyxJLVYoyUhVyMnPL8jIz0kFAI_dEQA&q=the+loophole+lyrics&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS910US910&oq=Garfunkele+an&aqs=chrome.3.69i57j46i13i131i433i512j0i13i512j46i13i131i433i512j46i13i512l2j0i13i512j46i13i512j46i13i199i465i512.8048j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&si=ACFMAn-NQkl3H6265t0r-8ceWzQU7TA2FhfjB7PCPnKu7wpWy2YAbKfuMMEXY-vtqMId_phQweQxPraIAGnC0mDxcV1ALLEfkvrNb63I_HXqH9U7oOJsfmgR3Rk_BUDBRaY-JRdJDHp2DF2zNeY_1lXytyPi_9juBQ%3D%3D&ictx=1&ved=2ahUKEwi_3MuFkaOAAxUrkYkEHZxiDLYQjukCegQIIxAC The staffers tried (and failed) to shut it off, asked everyone to mute themselves, put LeRose on hold and when he came back off hold... It was still playing. The staffers are trying to play it off as a prank by the opposition, with "campaign spokesman Ben Kindel told The Post on Tuesday that the the culprit was “probably” a supporter one of LaRose’s rivals who obtained dial-in information on the semi-private call with state GOP leaders." NY Post article:https://nypost.com/2023/07/18/obscene-song-the-loophole-overshadows-ohio-senate-candidate-frank-laroses-campaign-launch/ It's been speculated that in typical R fashion, they listened to the first verse: All my life I've been goodDo what my mom and dad and God say I shouldGo to church and Bible SchoolTo live by God's ruleSo whatever people tell meThat The Bible tells meI will do Walk the halls of high school with my purity ringUnlike those other girls, I've got my morals in check But didn't go far enough to understand the main premise of the song is that 'butt stuff' isn't really sex, so a girl can do that and stay a virgin (not going to quote those lyrics here). I'd also guess, mainly because it's what the Rs typically do, they didn't get permission to use the song from the owners of the copyright. Being endorsed by Trump in the last election, and refusing to distance himself, I'd like to point out that his campaign announcement could have included: MAGA - Make Anal Great Again

Phil1111 1,168 #6 July 22, 2023 The new DeSantis education program in Florida is right up there. Slavery, America's contribution to the education of Blacks. Just like smallpox and wiping out Bison helped Native Indians settle on reserves. The only place in the education systems that republicans frequent is school boards. Where they ban books and rewrite history. Florida and Texas remain at the top of the list of states banning the most books, followed closely by South Carolina, Missouri, and Utah. jakee 1,593 #7 July 23, 2023 Not that DeSantis has a snowball’s chance of getting the nomination anymore… but how on earth does he figure going for the KKK vote is going to help him reach the White House? Any national campaign this would be something that ought to kill him with swing voters, right?

Swing voters don't vote in primaries, and the pols rely on the average attention span of a US voter to be measured in hours, not months.

Phil1111 1,168 #10 July 26, 2023 GOP attack ads are now using AI created attack ads. trump never really said what is represented in this GOP ad. This is going to get very confusing for anyone who can't think for themselves. Like say FOX viewers. This ad comes from a pro DeSantis group, naturally. No word yet when Jesus, Attila the Hun, President Putin and other favorites of the right are going to endorse DeSantis.

jakee 1,593 #15 July 28, 2023 It seems undisputed that Tuberville's dad served with honour in what would have been truly horrendous conditions, in the midst of some of the fiercest German resistance of the war. If Tuberville doesn't think that's enough to be really proud of without significant embellishment, that's very sad. Also, if he sits on armed forces and especially veteran's affairs committees without knowing the difference between a Bronze Star and a campaign star then is he taking his job particularly seriously? Phil1111 1,168 #18 July 31, 2023 Here is a survey of the trump MAGA base: "Zero percent — not a single one of the 319 respondents in this MAGA category — said he had committed serious federal crimes. A mere 2 percent said he “did something wrong” in his handling of classified documents. More than 90 percent said Republicans needed to stand behind him in the face of the investigations(37% of republicans).... a second group of voters who probably won’t support Mr. Trump. They represent about one-quarter of the primary electorate and they say they’re not considering him in the primary. These voters tend to be educated, affluent, moderate, and they’re often more than just Trump skeptics. A majority of these voters view him unfavorably, say he’s committed crimes and don’t even back him in the general election against President Biden," (about 25% of republicans). So the years of republican news/propaganda from FOX, McConnell, trump, MTG has an absolute lock on 37% of republicans. Of course as other recent surveys have shown. Twenty percent of that base want a return to slavery. Many of those are the evangelicals who have sold their soul to Lucifer so they are bound to support trump/MAGA.

wolfriverjoe 1,523 #20 October 1, 2023 I was looking for a thread about the Republican Presidential Debates. While it may exist, I couldn't find it quickly or easily. This will do. During last weeks Presidential Debates, Mike Pence made a bold and broad statement, calling for the 'repeal of the Green New Deal'. It's neither new nor news that Rs always oppose any legislation that protects the environment. Or addresses Climate Change. Or costs rich people anything. So his stance isn't terribly surprising. However, his level of intelligence and how well informed he is(n't) isn't surprising either. The Green New Deal CANNOT BE repealed. In order for it to be repealed, it would have had to be made a law. It never was. So Pence wants to repeal legislation that never passed. The question arises: Is Pence that stupid? Or does he know that his supporters are that stupid? AOC had some choice words for him. Quote “Mike Pence was Vice President of the United States and still doesn’t know how a bill becomes a law, apparently,” https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4227145-rep-ocasio-cortez-mocks-pence-for-calling-for-repeal-of-green-new-deal/ I've never been elected to ANY public office and I know how that process works (more or less). I learned it back in the 70s during Saturday morning cartoons.

The current price for gas in Finland in US $ per US gallon is $7.76, France the same, Greece $7.99, The Netherlands $8.36 All of Europe is twice what the price is in the US. Where conservatives feel its a birthright to have cheap gas and say F*&k the rest of the world. The immigrants who are fleeing central America because farming has gone for s*&t. Well they should be shot at the border. Looming climate challenges are exacerbating the region’s struggles with poverty and insecurity, leaving many with no choice but to migrate.
