billvon 3,114 #1 Posted October 31, 2022 As the latest drought began to unfold, one of the go-to workarounds that the "we can't fix the climate" crowd went to was "we can just pipe Mississippi river water to the Southwest and not have to worry about rising temperatures causing drought any more! Problem solved." You can all guess what happened next. As of today, the Mississippi River is in such a state of drought that saltwater has backed up 64 miles into the river, killing fish and shutting down oil refineries, power plants and municipal water supplies - as well as ending much of the river-based shipping that the central US relies on. They are even building emergency dams on the river to try to keep seawater OUT of the Mississippi. This is our future unless we do something about climate change. https://www.npr.org/2022/10/27/1131452623/saltwater-mississippi-river-drought-gulf-of-mexico https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2022/10/30/mississippi-river-drought-impacts/ https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/10/28/drought-stricken-mississippi-river-creates-woes-across-us-region
