Because I'm not aware of any credible sources claiming that '1/3 of Florida would be underwater' by now. If the Antarctic ice cap melts, then yes. But while it is melting, and fairly quickly (on a global time scale), it has a long way to go.

Facts are fun... https://climate-science.press/2022/08/28/last-wh-polar-bears-ashore-even-later-than-2009-as-hudson-bay-finally-becomes-ice-free/ Figure 3. Monthly June ice extent for 1979 to 2022 shows a decline of 3.9 percent per decade. "Based on the linear trend, since 1979, June has lost 1.97 million square kilometers (761,000 square miles) of sea ice. This is equivalent to about three times the size of Texas...Most of the high-latitude Arctic Ocean was within a degree of the 1981 to 2010 average temperature. Temperatures in Scandinavia, Svalbard, and northern European Russia were generally 2 to 3 degrees Celsius (4 to 5 degrees Fahrenheit) above average (Figure 2b). The Hudson Bay region is also warm with temperatures 4 to 5 degrees Celsius (7 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit) above average.." "As of August 16, Antarctic sea ice extent was tracking below all previous years.. air temperatures at the 925 millibar level have been as much as 7 degrees Celsius (13 degrees Fahrenheit) above average the first two weeks of August,." In a thousand years the ancient traditions that shape todays concepts of gender and gender bending will be history, and the emblems of our racist past will be piles of dust not just toppled. Some of us, when we see a bend in the road ahead slow down for the turn. Others, too narcotized by the ease of a straight road, maintain speed and hope there isn't a cliff. You wore the nations uniform for 20 years, ostensibly, to guarantee everyones freedom to live a free life, not just you. Crying now because societal trends caused by the will of a majority of the free people you served don't suit you is, well, babyish. I am not certain that humanity will bake, boil, simmer, freeze or be washed away to extinction by 1000 days of rains and floods in the next 100 years but I am absolutely certain of one thing: humanity will not advance to game changing levels of technological advancement, and perhaps our salvation, using only the energy derived from fossil fuels. Nor will we achieve any of the loftier goals of peaceful brother and sisterhood by defining for our fellows how they should see themselves. You know, to each their own.

Yup. Heather Cox Richardson has done an excellent job of making this clear. Back then, the Ds were the party that wanted an 'elite' group of 'leaders' to make all the decisions. The 'uneducated masses' would be compliant slaves to them. The 'southern Democrats' had a lock on the politics. Elections were not technically rigged, but the outcome was never in doubt. After LBJ decided that 'those people' should have rights, and passed federal legislation toward that end, the 'old school' racists lost their shit (remember Wallace 'standing in the door'?) Once they realized that the Ds had more or less stopped supporting racism, the Rs took advantage, shifted their positions on a lot of things and took the south.
