Phil1111 1,149 #1 Posted September 1, 2021 (edited) Well republicans are at it again. Pandering to their god and their base. They have passed a new law effectively banning abortion and The Supreme Court did not take action early Wednesday on a request to block a Texas law prohibiting most abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, allowing the most restrictive abortion law in the nation to go into effect. Of course per GOP SOP protecting children has nothing to do with this equation. "More kids were hospitalized with Covid-19 this month than any other time this past year -- proving how seriously the Delta variant can hit any age group. Between August 20 and 26, an average of 330 children were admitted to hospitals every day with Covid-19, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention." Yet the GOP has put anti-vax, anti-masking freedom above their rights. trump's branding of the court is evident. So anyone who believes that all judges are not political can dissuade themselves of such notions. Edited September 1, 2021 by Phil1111
ryoder 1,590 #2 September 1, 2021 From the NYT link: But the Texas law was drafted to make it difficult to challenge in court. Usually, a lawsuit seeking to block a law because it is unconstitutional would name state officials as defendants. But the Texas law bars state officials from enforcing it and instead deputizes private individuals to sue anyone who performs the procedure or “aids and abets” it. The patient may not be sued, but doctors, staff members at clinics, counselors, people who help pay for the procedure, even an Uber driver taking a patient to an abortion clinic are all potential defendants. Plaintiffs, who need not have any connection to the matter or show any injury from it, are entitled to $10,000 and their legal fees recovered if they win. Prevailing defendants are not entitled to legal fees. This is asinine beyond belief. Anyone trying to sue will promptly have their suit tossed for lack of standing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_(law)

No need to travel to a clinic when various aid groups will mail the abortion pills straight to your door. Or go to the vet and say your pet has stomach ulces and needs misoprostol. I'm sure the GOP will approve since they are currently scarfing down copious amount of invermectin

As long as there are so many talking heads ginning up opposition to anything “liberal” and telling people they’re on the team, there’ll be plenty of people who will keep voting with groups that want to stay on top by stepping on others, not by being better. One way to do that is to redefine “better” as something like yourself. I’m concerned. Wendy P.

Phil1111 1,149 #19 September 2, 2021 Perhaps a burka would help women in Texas needing an abortion. All those armed GOP deputies chasing after their $10,000 bounties. Would have trouble telling who from who.
