I could be a bit optimistic, but I'd like to think that maybe 5 justices aren't total Trump sycophants. Trump lost his challenges to the election at the SC. Again, maybe optimistic, but if enough conservative legal scholars agree that he's disqualified himself, it just might withstand challenges. And that's presuming Trump can get competent lawyers to challenge it.

Problem is the election challenges were insanely obviously frivolous and accepting them would have been outrageous and unprecedented. This is much more of a judgement call, and accepting it would be unprecedented and cause outrageous among their cohorts.

But a LOT of what Trump did, and what he is getting in return is unprecedented. I'm not enough of a legal scholar to make the call, but when a couple long time members of the "Federalist Society" say that he should be disqualified, then it's well on it's way to being a serious discussion. Again, I don't know. But I can hope that it's a legit call and the SC backs it up. Edit to add: His cohorts are 'outraged' about everything. They haven't done shit. Not even large scale protests. In part because they saw how much Trump 'backed them up' after the insurrection attempt. In part because a lot of them are no longer available to protest. Because they're in jail or prison. Or out on bail and can't afford to get into trouble. Edited August 20, 2023 by wolfriverjoe

If you go back to the Nuremberg trials there was Defendant 27, the SS. They were found guilty, the entire organization. That's where we need to be. DA Fani Willis is my current hero. billvon 3,120 #1418 August 23, 2023 From ABC: WASHINGTON -- A witness in the criminal case against Donald Trump over the hoarding of classified documents retracted “prior false testimony” after switching lawyers last month and provided new information that implicated the former president, the Justice Department said Tuesday. Uh-oh. Looks like the Twitter threats in ALL CAPS weren't enough to keep that particular informant shushed. If this were Russia he'd be falling out a window real soon now. Never because of skydiving, excepting document and waiver review (I wrote ours) but because of my other gigs. Getting an attorney to initiate an issue when your standing was in doubt just doesn't happen even with an offer to pay more. Moreover, every lawyer I have ever hired was vastly more concerned with their standing with the bar than my particular problem. I guess that in the white shoe law firm arena where $2000 an hour is cheap things are different. But each and every one of us really needs to focus on that dichotomy and how it melds with our own relationship with the justice system and what we are really doing when we vote for a candidate or party.
