Merry Christmas

Jesus also declared "It is finished" just before he died.  The greek word he used was an accounting term meaning paid in full.

So he up and admitted his scam was over. I guess that makes him a stand up guy but probably not a god. And...no matter how you twist it or which language you claim he he used he didn't personally offer forgiveness.

Funny how this thread was full of goodwill until someone injected religion into it. The war on Christmas is real, and it’s coming from Christians!

Well, it didn't have to be attacked with all force. When Ron wished a merry Christmas, people mostly just wished it back.

Absolutely. It's just kind of silly to blame it only on the guy who introduced religion -- I was addressing Jakee's comment, using your post to Jaybird...

And these long back-and-forths are really, really, mostly the result of people who just.won't.let.it.go. All of them, not just the ones I disagree with. But it's SC.

Indeed! Religion, has always been a zero sum game about accounts and accounting.

Well the good book makes it clear doesn't it? Obey and its heaven. Don't and its hell. At least there is no ambiguity about the equation. No middle ground between the two like for instance America, 2020, under trump.

Some of the really big questions in life, those that really matter, are in fact black and white.  Like life or death.  Given a long enough timeline, you and I will eventually achieve room temperature.  There will be no in between.

And that leads to what religious leaders have always preyed on. Our unwillingness to face that basic truth.

Your generalizing.

And one of the most basic concepts in scripture is the fall of man resulting in his eventual death.  How is that not facing the truth?

'Cuz the religious types con people into believing in 'life after death'.

Telling them you can 'be in heaven for eternity' (that's forever and it's a mighty long time).

Of course, to get there you have to do what the 'high priests' tell you to do.
Which usually means give them money.
And the flip side of that being if you don't do what they tell you, you burn in hell for that same 'eternity'.

...how you live your life. Do you treat others fairly, treat them with respect. Understand that some people will never get by without help. That you should be ready and willing to help them and give to them.

That some people who choose to believe in gods do exactly that, i.e. do good, act in a Christian way. Others use religion to prey upon the weak, the vulnerable, those who choose to believe in gods and religion.

How? By clinging to the belief that you will live for eternity in heaven.

That's ironic, seeing as you don't believe that death is death.

Oh sure, but 'merry christmas' is merry christmas. 'Merry christmas, you're all evil' isn't quite the same.

You won't answer the question.

Death is death. The body dies (this is actually surprisingly hard to define in medical science so I won't try) and consciousness ceases to exist. 'You' are gone. Vanished forever.

Now since you probably knew that's approximately what I was going to say, and since I know that you don't agree with that, care to explain why you're being unreasonably argumentative?

I agree with what you said with regard to death.  You said that I didn't.  It was confusing.

I'm confused about why you're not telling the truth.

Or if you are telling the truth, why it matters whether or not we are fallen.
